Jesse Brown90, I can't tell if you're just a hater or a troll, but there's really no need for the insults, the off-topic rambling, or bringing up conspiracy theories. I'm sure there's a subforum somewhere for the New World Order, but it doesn't belong under hardware discussions.

On topic: You can build a rig today for $500-$600 that would absolutely demolish any $4000 setup from your era, and that’s with a Solid State Drive included. It flies compared to anything from 5-10 years ago.

Nowadays, you can put together a budget build around a Radeon RX 460 for about $1000, which outperforms most of the junk sold back when your hardware was current. For $333, you're looking at much more serious stuff—like a Radeon RX 470—which will triple the performance on those old games, while both the Radeon RX 460 and Radeon RX 470 can handle pretty much any modern title.

Regarding APIs, DirectX 11 brought some decent optimization, and DirectX 12 / Vulkan are great for older hardware. Of course, your Core 2 Duo and the rest of that rig have been completely left in the dust by time.

P.S. If it were up to me, you'd be banned for the vulgarity and the insults. This isn't a place to dump your frustrations, at least not like this.

If you just need something to display an image on the screen—meaning zero interest in gaming—then grab the cheapest option you can find, like a

Well, I’d love to play a few things here and there. I’m not exactly a hardcore gamer anymore, but you know... PES, Manager, NBA, Batman... I still enjoy those. It would be absolutely awesome if this setup could handle GTA 5 too!

Forget about running GTA V on that processor. 😁

I need some help. My graphics card just died on me. Can anyone recommend something for around $120? Here's my current setup:
ASRock M3A770DE motherboard...
Intel Core 2 Duo processor...
Corsair 400W power supply...

I highly recommend picking up an NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030; it's easily the best value card on the market right now... Honestly, they should just pull all this lower-end junk from the shelves... 🙂 It pulls almost no power—only about 75W—and according to the benchmarks, it actually edges out the R9 270... Checking out the specs on this NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030 versus that old Radeon card... Not much of a contest here. One's clearly ahead...

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it looks even better in person...

Find it somewhere... $50 I'd go with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030... $317

Today and tomorrow, we're looking at $300 strikes...$133 Grab a Phenom X4 955 or a 965 and you've got yourself a solid gaming rig. It'll handle just about everything on medium settings at 1080p...

I was searching through some listings online for an NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030... just trying to see what's out there. Found this link. Not much to say yet... just looking.

Check out this comparison between the AMD Radeon series and the RX 460! It’s pretty interesting to see how they stack up against each other... definitely worth a look if you're weighing your options...

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it's even better in person...

Go find it somewhere... $50 Just plug in that RX 460 and you're good to go... $317

Looks like we're looking at some $300 injections today and tomorrow...$133 Grab yourself a Phenom X4 955 or a 965 and you've got a legit gaming rig! It’ll handle just about everything on medium settings at 1080p... simple as that!

Will this work well with my current setup?

Anyone here running an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060? I'm curious to hear what you all think about them. How are they holding up temperature-wise?

Hey there.

Which one's actually the better call here?

The ASUS ROG Strix GTX 1070 or
the ZOTAC GEFORCE® GTX 980 TI 6GB, AMP! Extreme.

Roughly speaking, the GTX 1070 is a bit stronger—maybe just a few extra FPS depending on which game you're playing (I was checking out some benchmarks over at AnandTech lately)... Plus, since it's newer, I'd probably lean toward that one. Are you thinking about picking this up brand new at Best Buy or looking for something used?

I personally wouldn't go for the ASUS model; I feel like they're usually about 300-$133 overpriced 😛

I was actually leaning towards grabbing a GTX 1070, but I ended up going with an ASUS card just to match my motherboard. Honestly, I’m pretty clueless when it comes to different brands, so I figured keeping everything under the ASUS umbrella would just make things simpler.

I don't see any reason to go all-in on a single brand just for the sake of it; I certainly wouldn't want to overpay for that kind of uniformity. From what I can tell, the best value in the States usually comes from sticking with brands like Palit, Gainward, Inno3D, or MSI Armor, though you can occasionally find a decent deal on an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or a Zotac GTX 1070 if you look in the right places.

It’s kind of a mess to explain, really. I’m currently piecing together a new build because my old setup—an MSI Z87 G43 with an Intel Core i5-4570 and an EVGA GTX 680—basically went up in smoke. My power supply fried the motherboard. So, I’ve got some new parts on order, including a GPU. I'm going for a white case with blue lighting, a 720W Be Quiet! PSU, and I'm reusing my old SSD 850EVO and a 2TB SATA3 hard drive. For the new stuff, I've got an ASUS ROG Maximus VII Hero, an i7-6700K, an H110i cooler, and 16GB of Corsair 3200MHz RAM with blue LEDs. I'm sticking with an ASUS card since the lighting matches. The real question is whether I should grab a GTX 980Ti for better performance or just go with a GTX 1070. I'm not even looking at the price tag here; I care about how it actually performs. I put a lot of weight on the aesthetics, which is why this stuff is pricey... man, I could have gone for something much more budget-friendly, but since I'm investing this much anyway, I might as well get something that looks right. I know it's costing me. 😓

If I got this right, he wants to piece together parts from the same brand, all with RGB lighting, just to make the whole thing look flashy.
