How much sense does this actually make?

It's pretty close to my place if I need to go pick it up.

Look, it's fine. Just don't go expecting to crush Fortnite with a constant 60+ FPS. Even though the game looks a bit silly, don't let that fool you—it's not exactly easy to run on a budget build.

Using my old HD7850 2GB (which is a bit punchier than the one you linked, but still nothing special), I set everything to 1080p, cranked the view distance to max, textures to high (you might want to try medium), and I think I kept AA on high since it isn't too demanding. Everything else is either turned off or set to the absolute minimum, and I still maintain a steady floor of 60-70 FPS. Mind you, I haven't played it much lately, and I've upgraded quite a bit since then.

Got a little something new (don't mind me being a bore).
Finally snagged a Palit GTX 750 Ti 2GB ($150)
from this listing:

Planning on pulling the trigger this Monday.
Fingers crossed everything works out—hopefully my CPU doesn't end up bottlenecking the hell out of it! 😁

So, you're running an Intel Core i5 4th Gen? If it isn't giving you any major headaches, it should at least hold its own in Fortnite.

I was running an Intel Core i3-4130, but I just stumbled upon an Intel Core i5-4570 today, so I think I basically scored a massive upgrade by accident. Like I said, I’m not exactly an expert, but they both use the same socket, right? So they should be swappable.
I know this might be a dumb question, but will anything blow up if I just swap them out physically (assuming I use fresh thermal paste and everything)?

That’s all there is to it—just swap out the hardware, apply some fresh thermal paste, pop the cooler back on, and you're good to go. No need to mess around with any software tweaks.

Let's be real though, even an Intel Core i3-4130 can handle Fortnite just fine.

Man, he was definitely pushing it at 100%, even with the screen flickering and all, and that's without even having a GPU in there yet. Anyway, the CPU is going in today, and if the seller doesn't screw me over, I'll have the graphics card by Monday. Fingers crossed! Then we're hitting Fortnite hard. And just so we're clear, I'm playing first, not little 😁

Pairing that GPU with an i3 would change the entire equation.

For instance:

Look, I know games are constantly evolving and getting patched, but we're definitely looking at something in this ballpark.

If you paired that GPU with an i3, the whole situation would be a completely different story.

For instance,
Just input the specs exactly as I laid them out (post-processing, shadows, and effects aren't exactly negligible—they definitely take a bite out of your performance).

Now, look, games are constantly evolving and getting patched, but the baseline won't be far from this.

Honestly, grabbing a 750 Ti for $150 feels like a pretty bad deal when you could get something like this instead:

Honestly, it doesn't even matter. It’s way too early to worry about that anyway. Besides, I've already got a client lined up who'd buy the whole setup off my hands if I ever decided to pick up a decent rig 😁
This is really just about making my kid happy—they aren't even a huge gamer or anything, but I want to fulfill their wish and kill some time while we wait for the snow to finally hit this winter.

Christmas is coming up, which means it's gift time, so I just want to double-check my specs. For this build:
ASRock FM2A55M-DGS
Intel Core i3, 3500MHz (35x100)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 (Jamaica)
4GB DDR3 RAM
450w PSU

is this GPU >
still the absolute best bang for your buck, or is there something else out there that's even cheaper for playing Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto V, Fortnite, Roblox, Overwatch, or Subnautica??
Also, does it actually matter which brand of RAM I grab, or is there a "better" manufacturer I should look for? And what speed should I be aiming for? Thanks!

Not sure where this specific model came from out of nowhere, but it’s a bit of an upgrade over what you have:

https://www.amazon.com/product-link-placeholder

Adding another 4GB of RAM (you can probably find used sticks for $33) might be a good move. Anything more than that, and I guess your CPU will just start bottlenecking you. It’s probably best if the speed matches your current module if you're running a single 4GB stick.

Yeah, I’ve got one 4GB stick. Thanks for the tip. If anything else pops up, I'll be around tomorrow. 👍

Nah, the quality is pretty low... maybe try this instead:

Alright, I know this is kind of off-topic, but I was also thinking about this
