wiredotter14 said:well damn, whatever happened, wasn't polaris cheap back in the day when it was used? $333 used?

Maybe there's another mining craze happening and people are just grabbing up the cheap cards

AFAIK Bitcoin has gone up quite a bit... they say 1 BTC is $35k

edit, last year I picked up an RX 580 4 GB for $267 with a warranty

They’re still out there, honestly $167. I actually spotted some at an online auction for $200 recently, but they're all gone now. They were being used for mining, so the seller was offering a bulk discount if you grabbed 10 units 😁

RX 570 8GB, for $500. Claims it's only a week old with a 3-year warranty.
I don't get why the photo says 09.21.2018.

wanderingbison9, I just spotted some guy from Cincinnati on eBay selling an RX 570 Sapphire 4GB for $200.
It’s pretty obvious these came straight out of a mining rig (since those listings are still all over the place), but at that price point, you really don't have the luxury of choice.

Thanks, Momcovi, but this RX 570 only has 4GB of VRAM, so it won't really run my games properly; honestly, the price would only be worth it if it had 8GB, bringing it closer to the 800-$300 range. As for the Armor, I need to give it some more thought because I'm worried about the price point, especially since I've heard they tend to run quite hot, and I was thinking of pairing it with my current RX 580... though I noticed the link says it's $367???

So, this landed right in my inbox today:

https://www.abrakadabra.com/hr-HR/Ka...e=GRID&size=20

Honestly, I don't think I've ever encountered anything quite this bizarre. It’s some sort of weekend special featuring "professional" GPUs—which, let’s be real, are pretty much useless nowadays—on a general merchandise website. Where on earth did they get the idea to pull this together? And more importantly, who exactly are they hoping to sell these to?

About two or three weeks back, I managed to pick up an RX580 Strix for $367, and looking at the current market prices floating around, it seems I made quite a savvy move. My only minor grievance? It doesn't come with a warranty...

If I were looking for a used GPU in the $500-$$267 range, what’s the better move—going with an RX 5xx or maybe something like a GTX 1xxx?

I'm using "x" because I really don't feel like listing every single model here—it doesn't matter which specific ones they are.

You aren't going to find them at those prices anymore given how things are right now. Your best bet might be snagging an RX 570 4gb (or maybe even an RX 580 4gb) from a former miner, though you might have been able to grab them for 500-$200

ev0o, I’m heading out to grab some food, maybe prices will drop a bit by the time I'm back.

wiredotter14, are you doing alright over there? I'm really hoping it's just some weird glitch with your keyboard. ☕

Luckily, the keyboard's fine. It's just my 9 key on the numpad acting up.
Rough night. Had one too many drinks and instead of texting the wrong people, I ended up opening this forum. 😵

Man, you should've spent more time updating us on the mining situation instead of blowing up your ex's phone. Or maybe just trying to text a landline.

Gamer Meld is dropping some pretty heavy news following their recent interviews with Nvidia and AMD: don't hold your breath for a GPU market recovery anytime soon, because we likely won't see any relief before the middle of the year. Even worse, instead of prices dropping, we might actually be looking at further hikes... According to Lisa Su, the primary culprit behind all this chaos is the WHO.

Parts shortages are hitting everything, not just GPU chips. But honestly, those rising import tariffs on cards coming into the USA might actually work out in our favor

Apparently, Lisa Su points to the WHO as the primary culprit.

I think we really screwed ourselves by telling people to just wait a few months for the new models to drop. Honestly, who could have predicted this massive crypto mining surge?

Literally, you can't find a decent high-end GPU anywhere right now; everything is completely wiped out.
Even the used market has gone totally haywire. You can't even pick up those old 4GB cards like the GTX 1050 Ti or the GTX 1060 that became obsolete for mining.
I remember seeing an R9 380X 4GB for $100 just the other day, but I checked again and there isn't a single one left, just one lone unit sitting there for $233...

wanderingbison9 said:Lisa Su claims the main reason is COVID (???)

Logistics are a mess right now, which probably plays a part. Though oil prices are sitting pretty low, so that ought to bring costs down eventually.

wiredotter14 said:Well, these rising import tariffs on cards coming into the United States might actually work in our favor.

Why?

Things have gone completely off the rails. Back in late March, I picked up a GTX1660Super for $669. Now they're pushing past $333 if you can even find one in stock.

Come on, people, COVID isn't the main culprit here. Sure, it might have played a role, but the real issue is the mining craze... Nvidia is basically selling tons of hardware directly to miners, bypassing the retail market entirely.

Timothy Kim60 said:Honestly, what is there to say about COVID? Maybe it had some kind of impact, but let's be real—the real issue here is the mining situation. Isn't that where the actual trouble lies? Has anyone else been following the news about how Nvidia is apparently selling massive quantities of hardware directly to miners? It really makes you wonder about the direction they're taking with their distribution strategy lately, doesn't it?And that’s without even considering the possibility of them actually hitting the retail shelves.

Impeach Jensen Huang !!!😁
