Ugh... honestly, I don't really have the energy or even the desire to get all sucked into this whole debate🐔

Honestly, I don't feel like getting into an argument about it, but if there really are these mining crazies willing to drop that much cash on a used GPU, who am I to judge?

A buddy of mine is into mining and tells me an RX 580 with 8GB of VRAM is pulling in about $3.50 in pure profit daily at current ETH rates.

By the time I finish overthinking this, the hype might already be dead and gone.🤣

Does anyone have a gut feeling on when things might actually stabilize? Like, when are we going to see GPUs back at somewhat normal prices?🤔

I'm hearing nothing before summer... if ever.🐔

From what I've been seeing in the news lately, people are talking about a six-month wait... some motherboard manufacturers are even warning about smartphone shortages...

An RX 580 pulls in about $3 a day if you aren't paying for electricity. Do the math yourselves—figure out how much miners are overpaying for cards versus how long it actually takes to see a return on that investment.

I just want to make sure nobody gets the wrong idea here—those four RTX 3090s aren't actually being used for mining; they're strictly for rendering work...😬

If you pick up an RX 580 for around $450, you're looking at a six-month return on investment, wouldn't you agree? Of course, the real gamble is whether anyone can even predict what the profitability of mining will look like six months down the road.

I find it hard to believe anyone would pay three grand for this. I saw a GTX 1080 go for about $2,600$900 which didn't exactly fly off the shelves either

Honestly, I feel like the whole thing is just way too inflated—and yeah, those prices you see on Craigslist? Totally predatory, basically just designed to fleece people who don't know any better.

One calculator I used showed the 3070 bringing in about $11 a day after subtracting power costs. Basically pure profit...

Sure, the 3070 packs more punch. But honestly, I still think the RX 580 is a better value for mining, especially considering the prices we saw back when they dipped below $500. Now? Good luck finding anything. Everything that was anywhere near MSRP and actually capable of mining is long gone. It looks like Nvidia is even dusting off the GTX 1050 Ti just to have something on the shelves for gamers 😵😵😵

Now, there isn't much left to buy, which explains why prices are what they are. Anything close to MSRP that could actually mine is gone. I think Nvidia started churning out the GTX 1050 Ti just so they’d have something to sell to gamers 😵😵😵

If we were counting on that, I might as well take a picture of that card today.

If you're hunting for a card in this range $500 nothing beats a little Pascal 😉

wiredotter14 said:If you find yourself in need of a card slightly lower on the spectrum, let me know. $500 There really is nothing quite like the little Pascal architecture. 😉

And what exactly is that, if you don't mind me asking?🤔

Well, since the new GTX 1050 Ti is sitting right under $500, I guess we should probably look into that one, shouldn't we?

There’s even an entry-level Turing card in the admin section for $517 featuring GDDR6 memory

Yeah, the GTX 1650 is $517. Under $500 the GTX 1050 Ti is the strongest card 😢

They deserve a slap in the face for moves like that. Seriously, what are you even supposed to do with a 1050 Ti?

You're just dreaming about high-end cards that aren't even available anyway.

I've repaired enough laptops and PCs to know that plenty of people are still rocking old 19-inch CRT monitors with a 1360 x 768 resolution, where a GTX 1050 Ti actually performs quite well for gaming. Not everyone has money to drop on the latest gear...

The GTX 1050 Ti is decent enough for 1080p gaming most of the time. You can even squeeze through some AAA titles if you don't mind cranking everything down to low settings. It’s honestly pathetic that people are paying more for this than they did for the significantly stronger RX 570 not too long ago, but hey, better than nothing. If you're building a budget rig just to play Fortnite or some newer titles at 1080p—and you either can't or won't drop $1333 on a modern card that really should be sitting in the $200-$250 range this generation—then this is fine.

For anyone building a PC right now who wants to play Fortnite or newer titles at 1080p without being able to drop $1333 on a modern card that should realistically cost $2000-$2500 this generation, it's an okay choice.

I wouldn't really agree regarding AAA games. Cyberpunk absolutely crushes my RX 580 just trying to hit an average of 40 FPS at 1080p on low. A 1050 Ti would probably cry just looking at the start menu.😁
There's no point talking about AAA games without mentioning something like a 1660 if you actually want to hit something close to 60 FPS, regardless of your settings.

Cyberpunk is absolutely slaughtering even better GPUs.
A GTX 1050 Ti can handle something like Call of Duty: Warzone or similar titles at 1080p on low settings. Some guy was running an RX 460 and it was relatively okay, but the 1050 Ti is definitely stronger.
