That sounds great, really, but I just don't have the patience for the hassle...😁

If you look back through our discussion, you'll see I was eyeing that card too, but then I started thinking—isn't having "only" 8 GB of VRAM and being stuck with PCIe x8 a bit limiting when I could grab an RX 6700 with 10GB and full PCIe 4.0 x16 bandwidth for $750 maybe... well, then again, does the RX 6700 even make sense if I can pick up an RX 6700 XT for just a few dozen dollars more?

If you look at my previous comments, you can see I was eyeing that card too. But then again, "only" 8 GB of VRAM and a PCIe x8 lane when I could pick up an RX 6700 with 10GB and x16 for $750 roughly... and even then, the RX 6700 doesn't make much sense if I can grab an RX 6700 XT for just a few dozen dollars more...

To be honest, when you compare the prices abroad to what we see here in the States, it makes me lose interest in buying anything at all (like a 3080ti— $3333). It feels like nobody is winning here. And the worst part is, they seem intent on keeping prices this high indefinitely...

$2250 for an RX 6700? Where on earth?🤔

That's like maybe an extra $150 or so compared to the cheapest 6650 out there..

https://www.google.com/search?q=RX+6650&cod=&cdo=

Around 20% difference, I guess.

It's not even that unrealistic, honestly.

I think I'm gonna stick with the 6650—just waiting for those mid-range 7000 series cards to drop so prices might dip a bit more.

I'm playing at 1080p and rocking a Ryzen 5 5600. It feels like it wouldn't make much sense to jump to something pricier or better than the 6650 right now (especially compared to the RX 580 I'm using currently).

If I can squeeze another year or two out of this thing, then I'll just swap out the whole platform later.

Look, I’m not just playing around here; I actually need something "professional" grade, and I need it to be ready to go by the start of next year... I honestly doubt we'll see any decent discounts right after the New Year holidays. For pure gaming, the 6650 seems like the much smarter play, especially since the specs show it actually has a better pixel and texture rate than the 6700...

Exactly. The business model here is basically "never sell below cost, even if it kills you"—they'd rather just toss the stock. If they stocked them at price XYZ, that's the price they stick to, maybe dropping it by a tiny percentage later. That's why stuff sits on shelves for years with those insane original markups...

They only drop the price once they get a fresh shipment in. Plus, those initial margins are massive—easily over 30%...

It isn't like in the USA, where if a manufacturer cuts prices, everyone else follows suit because the manufacturer covers the gap...

Is it the XT model? Is there faster VRAM involved here, maybe looking at 280 versus 360 GB/s? I've noticed the price for the NVIDIA RTX 3060 has been climbing steadily since this morning ☕ It looks like I might be forced into making some pretty questionable financial decisions just to keep up...

That "effective" bandwidth thing is probably just some gimmick involving infinity cache, but otherwise, the 6700(XT) definitely has more bandwidth than the RX6650XT.
These are the official specs from AMD. I've no idea if any AIB models come factory overclocked, but either way, they should be outperforming the NVIDIA RTX 3060.

@wiredotter14/">@@wiredotter14: Yeah, I definitely mixed things up a bit; I think I totally flipped the logic somewhere and now my head is just spinning... I got tripped up by the higher pixel rate on the NVIDIA RTX 3060 (if you check TechPowerUp), but honestly, the card will probably just sit there idling since it likely crashed 😠

Talk about bad timing... but I get it, we recently got hit with a $2,000 repair bill for basically everything at once...

I’m stuck in a different kind of jam—I've got the cash, but there isn't a monitor out there I actually want because it'll absolutely murder my GPU (RX 6800). So now the question is: do I pull the trigger on the graphics card now and just wait months for a decent monitor? It's a "sweet problem" to have, sure, but it's still a headache... 🙂

I'm facing a different kind of dilemma myself; I have the budget for what I want, but there isn't a monitor out there that hits all my requirements without also demanding a massive upgrade to my GPU (like an RX 6800). So, do I go ahead and pull the trigger on the graphics card now and just wait a few months for the monitor? It’s one of those "sweet troubles" people talk about, isn't it? But honestly, it doesn't feel particularly fun when you're the one deciding... 🙂

So, I headed out for some shopping. Drove, stopped, drove, stopped, drove, stopped, and then suddenly, nothing—it just won't start. Could be the starter or maybe a blown fuse; it’s probably not the battery since the engine isn't even trying to crank. Now I'm stuck in a parking lot, and there's absolutely no way I can get this sorted before Tuesday.
What kind of monitor are we talking about here? Something for gaming? Maybe 4K with a high refresh rate? Surely there's some kind of monitor out there that fits the bill, given how many shapes and sizes they make these days.

That's the catch—they're everywhere, but most of them are junk unless you really don't care about quality...

I'm looking for a 27" IPS, 144/165Hz, 1440p, with lightning-fast response times—but without hitting a $1000 price tag. My top pick ended up being the Samsung Odyssey G5 (best response, great overdrive, HDR hits 450 nits though that's secondary, solid DP 1.4 bandwidth, decent ergonomics, plus good colors and a proper sRGB mode).

I've looked at the LG UltraGear or the AG500, but they both feel like a step down from the Samsung Odyssey G5... That new Samsung OLED Monitor is only available for preorder in the USA right now for $999...

The issue is that none of the decent stuff is actually in stock at the stores—everything listed for immediate shipping is backordered until 2023...

.

I've run into the exact same thing—the brushes in the starter are shot. Over the years, instead of staying perfectly round, the commutator gets slightly oval from all the wear, and then the brushes just lose contact because they're hitting that narrow spot. You can sometimes get it to work by push-starting it, and after you've been bouncing around on some bumpy roads, the vibrations might nudge those brushes back into place long enough to crank again. But once the rotor settles back into that "dead zone," you're stuck again 😢
For me, out of like 20 tries, it only actually died twice where I had to go back to push-starting. Once the holidays are over, I'll have to swap out the starter...
Luckily mine's a gas engine, so push-starting isn't such a nightmare. 😁
ps: Man, if I could just whack the starter with a heavy tool (not the car itself, obviously), it would probably fix it temporarily. But in this Chevrolet Cruze, the starter is buried so deep under everything else I can't even see it... so for now, I'm just finding spots near little hills so it's easier to push.

Grab a multimeter and check the battery voltage. Check the cable connections too. Just start with the easiest stuff first.

When's the NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti coming?

Thanks everyone for all the advice. We tried using the jump starter kit from my Uber driver, but since the battery is about two years old, it didn't do a thing; I don't want to bother anyone to help me jump-start it until Tuesday, so we'll just see what happens. I might try giving the starter motor a few good taps if I can pin it down (it's a 2002 Toyota Corolla), just so I can hopefully make it to the mechanic without needing a tow truck.
We are definitely >-track here, so apologies, but this thread hasn't been very active lately, so I'm hoping the mods will give us a little holiday grace. 🙂

@velvetlynx3/">@@velvetlynx3: That sRGB mode is such a trap; I have it on my monitor, but it really just tweaks the white balance without actually touching the gamut, which leaves everything looking incredibly neon... honestly, trying to use HDR on an IPS panel without any local dimming is just... ugh.

The moderator is getting salty.

About a month and a half ago, my battery totally died on me. It was a Sunday, around 1:45 AM, right when I was trying to make it to Walmart before they closed at 2. I had a charger and everything, but no luck—it was charged, but the engine just wouldn't turn over.

Then, a few days later, my water pump belt snapped. I ended up being without a car for about two weeks.🤣

Good luck sorting yours out. I’ve heard that pop-starting a car can be pretty risky if the belt is old, so maybe watch out for that...

...if it’s just a bad connection at the battery or if the battery itself is dying, all the dashboard lights should flicker when you turn the key to crank it.
...when you're push-starting it, you need to be in second gear and don't just dump the clutch—you gotta ease it out like you're pulling away from a stoplight in an automatic.

Anyway, I was browsing here because I'm looking for a used graphics card. Just something simple to run movies on my TV via HDMI, even just in FHD, since the onboard graphics on my PC are pretty trash.
I see some cheap cards on eBay that were clearly used for mining, some even missing connectors... I'm not sure if they're worth the gamble, or if they've been "overworked," as people in the audio community might say.
