After exchanging at least ten messages and consulting with three other guys, I finally placed my order. However, instead of sending me the pre-assembled units, they sent the components separately. Even though I hadn't explicitly specified that I wanted them fully assembled, the issue is that they rushed to process the order without ever asking for my preferences or providing a price quote. Honestly, it’s baffling when people seem this intent on turning down money.
And now I'm just sitting here waiting for a response. Does anyone have any idea who will be handling the assembly for me?
It’s funny how everyone has an opinion on this. You have one person insisting that I need to settle the full amount upfront, while someone else suggests just dropping 20% now and covering the rest as I go. 🙂

Watch out for the fine print—you never know if there's a pig in a poke. Man, buying used is always such a gamble.

wanderingbison9 said:Just opened the link... $167 RX 580? What's a fair price for one used these days? If I can't get anything decent, I might just hold onto mine...

You might be able to squeeze out 700, but I really had to dig around to find that one for 500. Even so, I wouldn't expect much more than that.
Well, Ethereum finally made the switch to Proof of Stake. Honestly, there’s zero difference now between the 8GB and 4GB versions.

I'm having a bit of a dilemma trying to decide between two specific paths here;
The RTX 4070 Ti versus the RTX 3090. On one hand, the 4070 Ti is more power-efficient, roughly 10% faster, and I could pick up a brand new unit from Best Buy for about $1,050. On the other hand, there's a used RTX 3090 available with about 10 months of warranty left, which offers double the VRAM and would set me back only $875.

My CPU, chassis dimensions, and PSU capacity aren't factors in this equation. My primary objective is pure gaming performance—specifically, I want a card that can sustain high-end settings at 3440x1440p resolution for as many years as possible.

I'd appreciate your insights and the reasoning behind them. Thanks!

RTX 4070TI vs RTX 3090. The 4070TI uses less power, is about 10% faster, would be brand new from Best Buy, and costs me $950. The RTX 3090 is used with 10 months of warranty left, double the VRAM, and would cost me $800.

CPU, case size, and PSU aren't issues. My main goal is gaming and making sure I can push max settings at 3440x1440p for as many years as possible.

Looking for opinions and reasoning. Thanks!

If both were brand new for around $900, I’d say the 3090 because of the VRAM.

But given this setup, I think a new card for an extra $150 is the smarter play.
Performance is roughly similar; the 4070TI is slightly better for gaming, sitting somewhere near the 3090Ti level. Ray Tracing performance is basically the same as the 3090.

At that resolution, you won't run out of VRAM.

Personally, I'd just wait a bit. Maybe prices will dip below $900.

My CPU, case dimensions, and PSU aren't issues here. My main focus is gaming and ensuring I can run everything on ultra settings at 3440x1440p resolution for as many years as possible.

I would appreciate any thoughts or reasoning you can provide. Thanks!

Where on earth did you find one for $950? Every retailer I checked was quoting me closer to $1,349.😵😵😵

As it stands, I believe opting for the newer card at a $150 premium is actually the smarter move.
Performance-wise they are fairly close; the 4070Ti edges out the 3090 slightly in gaming, landing somewhere in the realm of the 3090Ti. Ray tracing performance is essentially on par with the 3090.

At your resolution, you aren't going to run into any VRAM limitations.

Personally, I would wait a bit—perhaps until the price dips below $900.

Is the 4070ti series actually bad? I see quite a bit of criticism regarding it on YouTube. I already ordered mine, but now I'm worried I overpaid... I bought a whole PC, but since I'll be getting a tax refund, it might end up costing me less than expected.

And where did you find it for $1,350? 😵 😵

For just $200 more, you might as well grab a 7900XTX or a 4080.

In Germany, prices sit around $900-$950, but here in the US, they're closer to $1,000-$1,100.

For just an extra $200, you could step up to a 7900XTX or a 4080.

In Germany, prices sit around $900–$950, whereas here in the States, they go for $1,000–$1,100.

Here is where:
I originally intended to grab a 3080 Ti, but since the price was identical to the 4070 Ti, I went with that once I saw the deal...
Honestly, don't bother looking at Germany; by the time you factor in shipping and duties, the cost ends up being the same. Besides, I noticed that over at AMD.US, things are actually cheaper by about $800. $367
But I haven't been able to find anything for $900 locally...☕
P.S.: They start the build today. 🙂

Benjamin Sanders76 said:So, here is where things stand. I was just browsing through some hardware listings online and came across this specific product page. It really makes you wonder how much the availability of certain components fluctuates depending on which retailers we choose to shop from. Have you ever noticed how one store might have exactly what you need in stock, while another completely similar site is totally sold out? It’s such an interesting part of the shopping experience when you're trying to piece together a new build.
I was originally leaning toward picking up an RTX 3080 Ti, but then I realized the price was practically identical to the RTX 4070 Ti, so why wouldn't I just go with the newer one once I saw that?
It feels like you might as well be driving all the way to Germany just to end up paying the exact same amount once customs and fees are factored in. Honestly, isn't that just how it goes sometimes? Though, I did happen to notice that over at the American AMD store, the prices are actually about $800 cheaper. $367
I haven't been able to track down anything for 900 around here, either... does anyone know where I might actually find a decent deal?☕
Just a quick heads-up: they’re actually starting to put everything together today. 🙂

Wait, what do you mean by customs? 😵

True enough, once you factor in the sales tax and shipping costs, the final price usually ends up being about the same—unless you happen to catch one of those lightning-fast flash sales. For instance, there were a few days recently where the RX 6700 was sitting at around $400, bringing the total on Amazon to roughly $435, but now that sale has already vanished and the price is right back where it started.

That’s true; once you factor in the sales tax difference and shipping, the total ends up being about the same—unless there are some sudden flash sales. For instance, there were a few days where the RX 6700 was listed at $375, making the final price on Amazon about $403, but now the price has gone back up...

I'm actually based in Canada 😁
But honestly, it all works out to be roughly the same. Once you pay the sales tax, it might even end up being $100 cheaper $67
I was just talking to a friend over in Germany, and they have the 4070 Ti for around $1,100. That means we're paying about $200 more here, which makes sense given that our income levels are significantly higher than theirs 🙂🙂

Besides, AMD has been struggling lately. Their last two series, the 7000 XT and XTX, had massive issues with their cooling systems, so...

As for AMD, they've been in a bit of a tight spot lately; those last two series, the 7000xt and the xtx, have had massive issues with their coolers, so...

Let's not blow the problem out of proportion, please. 😬 The issue seems limited specifically to the reference cards rather than being a universal flaw. After all, a heatsink is a heatsink, isn't it? If it were simply a case of being undersized, wouldn't the failure be consistent across the board? Perhaps there's something going on with the sensors...
Personally, I'm feeling a pretty strong resistance toward NVIDIA right now because the software I rely on keeps hitting VRAM limits and crashing. It doesn't matter if we're talking about a card with 4GB or 24GB of Intel; the Blackmagic forums are absolutely flooded with people reporting the exact same thing. I happen to be using an RX 550 4 g temporarily, and while it’s slow, it manages to render everything. Meanwhile, my Quadro T600 throws a "GPU memory full" error every single time, which basically means you can't even finish a project.

On top of that, the RTX 3060 seems to suffer from some memory leaks that mess with professional software; I actually ran into this myself while working on a freelance project recently...

Look, I have a massive grudge against NVIDIA right now because the software I use keeps hitting VRAM limits and crashing—doesn't matter if it's a 4GB or 24GB card, the Blackmagic forums are full of people dealing with this. This RX 550 4 g I'm using as a temporary placeholder can render anything—it's slow, sure, but it gets it done—whereas my Quadro T600 throws a "GPU memory full" error every single time. It basically makes finishing a project impossible.

Plus, the RTX 3060 has some memory leaks that mess with professional software—I ran into that myself while working on an outside gig...

So you still haven't picked anything up?

I almost snagged a 6750XT, but it vanished right before my eyes while I was checking out. Since a 6800 is way too expensive, and my long-standing personal "code" 😁 won't let me settle for a 6750XT or anything lower, I ended up dropping down to the 6800XT.

No, I didn't buy anything; I kind of chickened out because I didn't want to overpay, especially since prices will likely drop any day now... but if I understood you correctly, you actually did make a purchase? How much did it set you back, and where did you get it?

If that's the case, I might have to jump up to the 68xx series too, since I'm currently running a 58x and I want to stay loyal to the brand... would that end up being, what, four times the price?...🙄😬

You'll need at least a 6700 🙂

I completely agree, that's exactly what I'm focusing on right now; I've already decided to pass on anything in the 66xx series.

There’s no customs duty involved. When both countries are part of the same trade bloc, it's seamless. I order everything from abroad constantly. The only issue is when you deal with those incompetent shops that try to overcharge you 25% VAT instead of the standard 19%, and then you realize it's better to just skip them. That's really it.

If you're buying stuff locally at our domestic prices, are you actually crazy, or just throwing money straight into a furnace?

Both seem likely...

But as far as I know, charging 25% for the US is correct—it happens where they switch the tax from 19% to 25% at the final step... probably checking your card origin, IP, or whatever else...

As far as I know, charging 25% for the US is correct, and it's actually quite common for the rate to jump from 19% to 25% during that final checkout step... they probably just verify where the card was issued or check the IP address or something along those lines...

Right, it’s not like they're being foolish on purpose; it's all based on European Union regulations, and we certainly wouldn't want to go breaking any laws... but it makes me wonder, what happens if a shop ends up only charging the German tax rate of 19%? Is there a chance that some kind of "notice" arrives from the tax authorities later down the road? And if one does arrive, would it be sent to the customer or the seller? For instance, looking at a situation with Mailboxde, since the address is in Germany, they charge 19%, yet Mailboxde isn't responsible for handling any tax payments once they forward it to the US. Who actually ends up getting stuck with the bill in that scenario?

Is there a chance the customer gets some sort of "notice" from the IRS later down the line? Or, if a notice is issued, does it hit the buyer or the seller? Take the situation with Mailboxde, for example—since the address is in Germany, they charge 19%, and Mailboxde isn't responsible for handling any tax obligations once they forward the package to the US. Who actually ends up getting screwed in that scenario?

You can apply that same logic to pretty much anything, including digital goods. To answer your question, I've personally never run into an issue where I paid foreign VAT and then had to settle a difference because someone decided I owed more. Since everyone stays under that 25% threshold, it hasn't been an issue for me. Whether it's physical products or digital downloads, I've been buying stuff regularly since we joined the union.

Whether it's physical products or digital ones, I've been shopping regularly ever since we joined the system here in the US.

Not everyone follows that same pattern; for instance, Canada sits at 27%, while Denmark and Sweden stay around 25% just like us...

I really appreciate you sharing such a smooth experience, though I can't help but wonder, are there actually specific legal procedures in place to handle those types of situations if things were to go sideways? 😉
