I'm gonna circle back to this question since I never actually got an answer.
Seriously though, how does someone who’s been permabanned from the forum even manage to start a new thread or jump into a discussion?

Any forum members who find themselves under a (permanent) ban can actually start a thread over in the Appeal Corner to talk about their situation and try to get it sorted out.

Thanks.
So, how does someone actually jump into the discussion?

P. S.
Any idea why they don't just hand out permabans on request anymore?

I guess, how can they actually join the discussion?

P.S.
Do you happen to know why they don't issue permanent bans upon request anymore?

The President only discusses things with the moderation and admin teams. A user who's banned isn't allowed to take part in other discussions or even reach out to other forum members.

I'm not really sure. But I think those old permanent bans could be lifted if someone asks.

But how is he even supposed to join the conversation?...

P.S.

Why wouldn't they grant a permaban if the user is actually asking for it?

northerncyclist2,
If I’m reading the room right, someone who’s been hit with a permanent Ban should probably just reach out directly to the mods or the admin to appeal the decision.

Really appreciate everyone weighing in on this.

P. S.
I’d also throw my two cents in that if someone makes a clone account to get around a permanent Ban, they shouldn't be punished with another one; honestly, they should just be treated like any other new user joining the community.
Thanks again for all the input, guys.

Check out the FAQ—it covers all the rules, the supermod rosters, and the most important threads.
• Permanent Bans aren't handed out just because someone asks.

And then they just start demanding specific PDFs or half a dozen others whenever they feel like it...😁

If I’m following you correctly, someone who’s been permanently Banned should probably reach out to a moderator or an admin to ask about getting that Ban lifted.

Thanks for all the input, everyone.

P.S.
I guess I'd just add that if someone makes a clone account after being permabanned, they shouldn't be punished with another permaban. Maybe they should just have the same rights as any other new user.
Anyway, thanks again for the replies.

(Perma)Banned users can't actually DM a moderator or an admin since their messaging is blocked, so they usually just start a thread with their appeal over in the "ban corner" subforum, where the right moderator or admin can weigh in on the situation.

From what I know, it's against the rules to post using a clone account if the original one is currently under a Ban or permabanned.😉

Of course, I suppose the real question is how easy it would be to get caught.

I guess the rule is kind of silly, honestly. It feels like any user who’s actually aiming for permanent status could just easily bait the admins into giving them a Ban. Maybe that's just how it works, but it seems a bit pointless to me.

I would simply add that a clone of a permanently Banned user should not be punished with a permanent Ban. They ought to have the same rights as a new user.
Once again, my thanks for the responses.

In that case, Bans and permanent Bans would lose their entire purpose, as would moderation itself. The goal of a permanent Ban is to protect the forum from problematic users. A user isn't just a screen name, or one of several handles used to access the site, but a specific individual with their own behavior—whether acceptable or otherwise.

Look, they implemented the rule because so many people kept asking for it, only to change their minds later and realize they didn't actually want it after all.

Some folks have even done it multiple times.

I mean, wouldn't it make more sense to just allow the perm without any option to undo it? 🤷

Zachary Mendoza2 said:If we just handed out bans and permanent bans at will, moderation would lose its entire point. The whole idea behind a permaban is to shield the community from toxic users. But look—a user isn't just some handle or a collection of logins; they're an actual person with a face, a beard, and certain behaviors—whether those behaviors are helpful or totally unhingerred.

Hate to burst your bubble... Bans, permabans, and even moderation itself? They honestly don't accomplish much.

It’s not just because you can't actually stop someone from posting on a forum—it's about how the editors run things. We've had guys causing absolute chaos for years—deliberately trolling, insulting people, and wrecking threads—without ever catching a single permaban. Why? Because they were posting from an IP address that brings in massive amounts of traffic and clicks. 😁

Brian Edwards78 said:I hate to break it to you, but Bans, permabans, and moderation are largely pointless.

It isn't just because stopping someone from posting is impossible; it is also due to editorial policy. There was one guy who caused chaos on the forums, intentionally provoking people and ruining discussions for years without ever receiving a permaban. Why? Because he was posting from an IP address that generated a massive amount of traffic and clicks. 😁

Well, I cannot disagree with your principle, but editorial policy isn't absolute or eternal. There is still some discretion in moderation and specific rules for certain subforums, so there are bubbles that don't just burst easily. 😳

I guess some people just love causing trouble for the sake of it.

Like, let's say I want a promotion right now, and I tell you, "Look, if you don't give me that raise immediately, I'm going to start acting out so much that you'll have no choice but to cave"—isn't it just easier to just give me the promotion from the jump? Why deal with all the headache of cleaning up my mess when the end result is basically the same anyway?

I mean, it would be easier for management, and definitely easier for the employee who actually wants the perk. But hey, I guess things aren't always logical, right? 😁

Brian Edwards78 said:You have piqued my interest. Could you list some of those bubbles?

I prefer not to overstep. Speaking solely on behalf of the subforum I moderate—which is the FBI section—I believe our moderation remains highly principled and consistent. I cannot think of any instances where double standards were applied, nor have users expressed feelings of being unfairly targeted or mistreated by inconsistent rules. We haven't received any serious complaints; in fact, we've received praise. There are no issues with administration, the users are satisfied, and overall, I would say everything functions well and should continue to do so.

To avoid sounding self-serving, since this is off-topic, I won't expand further unless you have a specific grievance regarding the FBI section.

And here we go again—the crowd that keeps changing its mind. Since when did "perm status upon request" even become a thing?
