So, what if you just handed him the cash to upgrade to a better graphics card instead? 🙄

Even if I had to pay $1667, even if this drags on for a year, I don't see the point of your argument here.

@osmi
I'm not looking for a handout. I'm just being logical. At the rate we're going, we'll be running our entire lives through a computer screen within five years.

If you ask me, for that kind of cash, you’re better off grabbing something used. For those $100, you could score a card that's easily three times more powerful. Who knows? Maybe someone would even let go of an old Radeon 4850 on Craigslist

Sure, but I actually get a warranty with this one. With used gear, you get nothing. Like one of the guys on here said, who knows what'll be left of it in five years?😛

I definitely agree—buying used always feels like you're inviting a headache you didn't ask for. But honestly, for such a small amount of money, I don't think it's a huge deal 🤷

Either way, you aren't going to get much use out of a cheap new one after five years anyway (assuming it actually holds up for gaming 😉).

I'm stuck at work with nothing to do, so I went ahead and dug up a few listings you might actually want to see...

Honestly? Any single one of these is a way better move than what you were originally planning to buy.
There are tons more from the 4850 series out there too. As for NVIDIA? There isn't much worth looking at right now—maybe just a 440 if you're desperate, but that's about it.

Thanks, Bryan Taylor6. I already picked everything up—got all the parts exactly as I expected.

I'm running an ASUS motherboard
with an Intel Celeron right now, but I’m looking to swap it out for an Intel Core 2 Duo
. What kind of graphics card would pair well with this setup so I don't run into a Bottleneck? I've got a 400W power supply under the hood

What kind of graphics card would pair well with that setup without hitting a Bottleneck? I've got a 400W power supply.

What exactly is the model of that power supply, and what GPU are you using at the moment?

any card with DDR5 memory will work...

basically you could grab an $183 NVIDIA GeForce http://www.nabava.net/trazilica.php?tp=0&q=hd6670+ddr5

but honestly, I think the HD 7750 is the better move http://www.nabava.net/trazilica.php?tp=0&q=hd7750+ddr5 for about $233

I feel like going any lower than those cards is just a waste of time, regardless of what CPU you're running... because eventually, you'll want a decent upgrade and you'll actually need a GPU that performs properly... or you'll try to sell it later and realize it's worthless... if you buy some junk like a GT 430 for $150 say, $20, who are you even going to sell that to? Nobody...

The 7750 pulls less than 80W

Right now, I'm rocking an NVIDIA GeForce 512MB, and honestly, my power supply is just some cheap, bottom-of-the-barrel unit I picked up somewhere. I was hoping you guys could point me toward a decent GPU that won't cause a major Bottleneck, because there's really no point in upgrading if everything else just drags it down. Currently, I'm running on 1GB of RAM

I was hoping you guys could suggest a decent graphics card that won't cause a massive Bottleneck, since there's really no point if it does. I've also got 1GB of RAM sitting in there.

In that case, grab an NVIDIA GeForce with DDR5...

So, I was wondering—could I actually run an NVIDIA GeForce and an NVIDIA GeForce together in SLI?

Not going to happen. For SLI to work, you need two identical cards—so it’s either an NVIDIA GeForce GT 210 Dual setup or an NVIDIA GeForce GT 210 Dual setup. You can't mix and match like that.

nah, neither one works in SLI🙂

only NVIDIA cards can run in SLI...

Honestly, I don't even pay attention to that stuff, haha.🤣

It’s basically the same deal when you're running AMD cards... I'm only asking because a buddy of mine has an NVIDIA GeForce GT 210 and an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT plugged into the same rig at once, and they play together just fine without any drama.
