Hey there, I'm Mary. I'm 17, turning 18 soon.๐Ÿ™‚
Anyway, I've been dealing with some really strange symptoms lately, and honestly, they're starting to worry me a bit.
It all started when I began feeling dizzyโ€”you know that shaky, weak feeling you get when you haven't eaten in forever? Well, that dizziness just kept getting worse. Then, my right hand went numb, and the right side of my face felt kind of heavy or weak. I could still walk and everything, but talking became a real struggle. Right after that, a massive migraine hit me.

The next day, the exact same thing happened, only much more intense. It got to the point where I couldn't get a single word out properly. If you know that sensation when you've had way too much to drink and your head is spinning so fast you can barely form a sentence? Yeah, that was me. Also, I take a typing class at schoolโ€”I'm actually the best in my classโ€”but that day, it took me nearly five minutes just to type out one single word correctly.

The day after that, the symptoms returned again, maybe even a little stronger this time. And of course, the migraine was absolutely killing me.

Things seemed to settle down for a bit, but now, for four days straight, my left big toe has been totally numb!! It doesn't actually hurt, but the sensation is driving me crazy!

Mary, you seriously need to get to a doctor right now. ๐Ÿ™‚ These symptoms aren't something to mess around with. I honestly don't get why you didn't just head straight to the ER.

Yes, I suppose it would probably be best to just head straight to the ER. They can run blood work immediately, perform a neurological exam, order a CT scan, or whatever else might be necessary.

Anyway, I've been having some really weird symptoms that are honestly a little scary.
First off, I started getting dizzyโ€”you know that shaky feeling you get when you're starving? It got way worse than that. Then my right hand went numb, and the right side of my face felt weak. I could still walk and everything, but talking was a struggle. After all that, a massive migraine hit.

The next day, the same thing happened, but much stronger. It got to the point where I couldn't say a single word properly (kind of like that feeling when you're super drunk and your head is spinning but you just can't get the words out?), and thatโ€™s exactly how it felt. Also, I have typing classes at school and I'm usually the best in my class, but that day it took me about five minutes just to type one single word correctly.

The day after that, the symptoms returned again, maybe even slightly worse, and of course, the migraine was absolutely killing me.

It hadn't happened again since then, but for the last four days straight, my left big toe has been numb!! It doesn't hurt, but it's driving me crazy!

You need to get to the ER at a local hospital and ask for neurology. You should probably get an emergency brain CT scan. What you're describing could be anything from MS or a brain tumor to an aneurysm.

Iโ€™m with them on this one. These symptoms are incredibly serious!

I ended up in the ER, and they actually wanted to admit me. But since Iโ€™m still a minor and my parents weren't around at the time, they couldn't legally keep me there. They've ordered a whole battery of testsโ€”CT scans, EEGs, TCD, you name it... but everything is scheduled out until the end of the year. By the time November rolls around, who knows? I might just have a stroke by then, haha

I could have a stroke or something lol

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!๐Ÿ˜ฒ
Get yourself back there right now! Did you even explain what was happening to them?
You need to get back to the hospital immediately. You are describing serious symptoms that demand urgent medical attention without any delay. I can't believe they turned you away! Which hospital were you at? Whoever sent you home should be reported for denying emergency medical care!

Thatโ€™s exactly what I was getting at.

We're going to see more and more of this. ๐Ÿ˜ข Theyโ€™re cutting corners and pinching pennies everywhere you look.

Back in Kansas City, at the local hospital... and honestly, this happened to me last night while I was scrolling through Facebook. I can paste the whole conversation here if you want, though thereโ€™s really no point in me repeating everything I wrote myself

Donna Fowler2
and I haven't even gone in for my brain scans yet
not quite
can't even write it down properly
my nerves or my head are just shot

Oh, itโ€™s nothing serious, really
but I can't deal with it right now, I'll just mess everything up

21 hours ago/Mateja Kusaniฤ‡
Mary, what happened? Come on, just tell us how it went hahahaha

I can't
I meant to say that nothing is wrong, but I just can't type out our chat

God.

Seriously, just grab your parents and head straight to the ER together. If they try to brush you off, go see the hospital administrator first thing tomorrow and report whoever turned you away. These symptoms youโ€™re talking about aren't something to mess around with; it could be anything. You need to get checked out immediately and start some kind of treatment if it's necessary.

I don't know, if it were me, Iโ€™d just leave. I wouldn't be sitting around waiting.

What happens if the next attack leaves you completely paralyzed? You could have prevented that by getting out of there right now to see what's actually going on. You have no idea what you're dealing with, so don't just sit there waiting for it to happen again. Go find out why this is happening.

Honestly, I wouldn't go so far as to bet that they won't find anything. You really need to take this situation seriously!

And it also feels to me like you haven't even mentioned this to your parents yet.๐Ÿคท

I mean, I did say that... but honestly, my folks don't really seem to care much about it anyway.

I don't even know what to tell you. Do you have any adults in your life who can actually drive you there and stay by your side at the hospital? Honestly, just tell them youโ€™ve got elderly relatives who couldn't care less about you, and let the social workers deal with the fallout. But for God's sake, make sure they run the tests.

Look, someone should just throw you in a car right now and drive you straight to the Mayo Clinic. Theyโ€™ll probably have to keep you under observation indefinitely once you get there.

I haven't really dealt with anything major over the last few days, just feeling pretty wiped out, and I've been bickering with my parents, so honestly, I have no idea how I'm going to make it to the big game

Friends, extended family, or even a bus if all else fails...?

Look, Iโ€™m going to be straight with you. You have absolutely every symptomโ€”plus a few othersโ€”that my late mother had. Her diagnosis was a malignant brain tumor. When you're dealing with something like that, every single day counts, and you need to start treatment immediately.

Honestly, at this point, your replies are starting to feel a lot like trolling.โ˜•

Either sheโ€™s trolling or sheโ€™s being incredibly reckless. ๐Ÿคท

If someone is playing games on a medical forum about stuff like this, they need professional helpโ€”like, psychiatric help.

If she isn't joking, then she needs to get her act together. The next episode could leave her paralyzed. Who knows what we're actually dealing with? It could even be a minor stroke, for all we know. If people want to mess around with that, fine, do whatever you want.

I think we've made our points. These are serious symptoms that need actual medical attention. At the end of the day, it's her choice whether she wants to sit at home surfing forums trying to self-diagnose or actually head to an ER to get real tests done. ๐Ÿคท
