Hey... so my cousin is currently in a hospital in Seattle, dealing with some really heavy lung disease, and he is literally dying from the pain! They won't give him any morphine because apparently, they "aren't allowed" to! Is that even a thing? Like, seriously? The guy is writhing in agony in his bed, and they're just refusing to give him anything to ease the suffering? What is the actual problem here? Does anyone know if this is legal, or has anyone dealt with something similar?...

I’m sure the doctors have their reasons for making that call.
There might be a specific contraindication involved, so it’s worth checking out the details here:

Maybe you can touch base with the doctor tomorrow to get some more clarity on everything.
Just keep in mind that, legally speaking, they aren't required to share updates with just anyone.
Usually, they only loop in immediate family...

You need to push for an anesthesiologist to step in and take control of his pain management plan! If morphine is off the table due to some medical contraindication, there are plenty of other effective alternatives available. Pain isn't just something you "deal with"—it’s a clinical issue that can, and absolutely must, be treated!

Morphine can really mess with your breathing and cause depression in your respiratory system, so maybe that's what's going on here...

It can definitely cause some issues... but if you go at it with a horse dose....
