Is anyone actually moderating this subforum? 🀷 It’s cluttered with Gallup polls broken down by voting districts where nobody even participates. On top of that, why hasn't the general party popularity poll been locked? It’s nearly a year old, which makes the data completely irrelevant... so now we're just stuck with two identical polls sitting there. πŸ™‚ I also wanted to ask why the "What kind of Election Law do we need" thread is still marked as moved. That tag has been hanging there for months now. 🀷

The polls are open for each district individually, along with the top topic for each area. Whether people actually vote in them is entirely up to the users.

As for the moved thread regarding Election Law, it sits on the main Politics page because Election Law is a political issue. It's also listed in the Elections PDF to prevent unnecessary duplicate threads from opening.

You're right about the general forum poll; the old one is closed, and the new one (yours) is live.

As for moving that thread about the Election Law, it’s sitting on the main Politics page because Election Law is inherently a political issue. It’s also listed in the Elections PDF just to prevent people from unnecessarily opening duplicate threads.

The real headache with these polls is that some users end up voting in multiple districts because, I guess, the forum doesn't have any way to restrict that. On top of that, the polls only list the names of the first candidates on the ballot... but most people are actually voting for the parties. For example, if someone wanted to vote for the Libertarian Party in their district, they’d probably have to spend way too much time Googling just to figure out which candidate represents them, since everyone in that party besides the lead guy is basically anonymous.

Wouldn't it be more efficient to just lock this down and instead add polls featuring full party lists to the top topics?

You’ve got a point, fundamentally. But isn't it just common sense that voters should actually know the names of the politicians they're intending to vote for? Elections are serious businessβ€”they shape our entire futureβ€”so I think it's fair to expect people to put in a little effort to figure out who they might eventually be sending to US Congress.
