Now that we have settled the avatar situation, let us examine whether this forum could move away from the current 640-pixel limit on images within posts—at least according to the rules, though I notice exceptions are occasionally made.

Allowing 1024x1024 might cause some issues, but I believe an 800x600 limit (be it 600x800 or 800x800) would be harmless. 😁

It’s possible that allowing 1024x1024 images might cause some layout issues, but I suspect moving toward an 800x600 standard—be it portrait or landscape—wouldn't cause any real headaches for anyone... 😁

It would probably be smoother if they just implemented a plugin that automatically scales everything down to 800x600, then lets you click to expand them back to full size.

Yeah, I guess that would actually be a decent fix.👍

I doubt a plugin like that even exists for this version of vBulletin, but let someone more knowledgeable weigh in.

Not sure that's a good idea either.
I've seen forums using similar tools where users just dump massive 2500x2000 pixel images—files hitting 1MB each—and suddenly pages are crawling even on decent broadband.

I can't say for certain that such a move would be advisable...
I’ve come across a few different forums where people start adding those specific extensions—and then, predictably, users begin unceremoniously dropping massive 2500x2000 pixel images into threads. We’re talking files that are easily 1MB or more per shot... it makes certain pages crawl to a halt, even on a decent high-speed broadband connection...

It exists...

Honestly, seeing someone dump a monstrosity like that into a thread—I really think the moderators should just step in and scrub it. It’s the kind of thing that can be dealt with quite easily if one actually sticks to the forum guidelines... But generally speaking, if we could just move toward making 99% of these posts image-based, the threads would look significantly more organized and polished...
