Which free video player should I use?

You've got Windows Media Player, VLC Media Player, RealPlayer, Splash Lite, or just grab K-Lite or CCCP codec packs—those usually come with Media Player Classic Home Cinema included, which pretty much opens everything under the sun.

Just pick whatever works for you. There's plenty of other junk out there too.🙂

For tunes? Just use Audacity.

For movies... I always lean toward VLC.

I don't know about you guys, but I think RealPlayer totally rules. Personally, I've never really run into any issues with it.

So, what's the deal with BSPlayer? I noticed this free version comes with a codec downloader now. I don't usually bother with all those different video formats, but for the movies I actually sit down to watch—mostly just .avi files—it plays everything perfectly fine. 🙂

Anyway, if you're looking for something else, I’d definitely go with VLC if you want my opinion. 🙂

I’ve been sticking with VLC, but honestly, I haven't been particularly happy with it lately—as I mentioned in my previous post.

I'm on the hunt for an alternative media player that checks all of these specific boxes:

a) solid subtitle support
b) the ability to handle just about any video format you throw at it
c) adjustable subtitle delay via hotkeys
d) adjustable audio delay via hotkeys
e) dedicated shortcuts to skip forward or backward by 5, 10, 15 seconds, and so on
f) playback speed controls (1.1x, 2x, 3x, 0.5x, etc.) using hotkeys
f) a built-in way to take screenshots
g) a reliable recording feature—this one is actually quite crucial for me

a-it handles all the subtitles automatically
b-it plays basically anything you throw at it...
c-you can use shortcuts for everything too... like, if you want to move subtitles, just hit right-shift plus the left or right arrows, or use right-shift with the up and down arrows to adjust their position, and if the font is too small, just hit ctrl plus plus or minus to resize them
d-I’m honestly not even sure if there's a way to manually sync them within the player, because I’ve never really had to deal with that—plus, why would you even download a rip that isn't synced properly in the first place? But hey, you definitely get those handy shortcuts for playback speed and all that other stuff...
e and f - it’s got all those features built right in, including quick keys for playback speed, fast-forwarding, rewinding, jumping to a specific timestamp, or skipping ahead/back ten seconds. (I think you can even customize how many seconds it jumps per click, but I don't feel like digging through the settings right now to confirm.)
g) - now, that last thing you asked for is a pretty big ask for just a media player... I don't quite see why you wouldn't just use a separate app for that, but you can actually grab screenshots of "what you see on screen" or capture them at "original size" using external tools

Anyway, if you ask me, it's hands-down the best player out there, and it doesn't even hog your system resources too much. Plus, if you aren't a fan of the default look, there are tons of different skins you can download to make it look exactly how you want. Anyway, hope that helps you out!
