But if I could offer one bit of advice to you and everyone else here who just had surgery... maybe hold off on that total euphoria for at least a month. You really can't see the true results until all that swelling finally subsides. I suspect many of the veteran patients here will agree with me on that.

I'm actually thrilled with how it turned out. I don't think there's going to be a massive transformation in terms of size, since my old nose wasn't particularly huge to begin with, but the main thing is that the irregularities left over from my accident have been smoothed out, and the profile looks much more balanced.🙂

It’s still a little swollen, and the sides look a bit thick and uneven, plus the bridge is pretty wide, but it’s only been 6 days! I told myself that if things don't settle down within 6 months, then I might actually start worrying 😍
My sister keeps telling me it just looks "deformed" because of the medical tape and the splint, and that it'll look much better soon.

But honestly, it's wonderful. The profile view and the front view both look excellent. Even my friend mentioned she was expecting that "fake" plastic surgery look, but instead, it looks totally natural—like, it actually suits my face perfectly.
(I know she's my friend, but she's being totally objective, I swear!)

Anyway, I'm going to go get cleaned up first, and then I'm definitely grabbing a drink!

I had my very first surgery under general anesthesia, and if I remember correctly, my throat was absolutely wrecked. It’s tough, especially when you have those nasal tampons in—you can't even breathe through your nose, so you're forced to mouth-breathe, which just leaves your throat feeling incredibly parched. Honestly, trust me, a local anesthetic with sedation is a million times better. You really don't need to be afraid. You’ll feel great once it's over, maybe not even feeling overly tired. General anesthesia is basically just a deep sleep.

Required pre-op testing:

For those under 40—you'll need a full CBC, an EKG, sodium, potassium, creatinine, AST, ALT, glucose, PT, and PTT.

If you're over 40—it's everything listed above, plus a chest X-ray.

MANAGING SWELLING

During the first day or two, feel free to use cold compresses on your face. Just... please don't go slapping ice packs directly on your skin; you're asking for frostbite at that point. Use those cold compresses as much as you can right after the procedure to keep the swelling from getting out of hand.

Since he was in such a rush and rushed through the exam—just like someone else mentioned here, it felt like only three minutes passed—I didn't really get a chance to grill him about the specifics of the surgery itself. So, I was wondering if he would also handle the aesthetic side of things, since my breathing and sinuses are actually fine 🤷 (please bear with me, I'm totally new to all this, so don't judge my lack of expertise!). My main struggle is just these allergies, but I ended up seeing him because my immunoglobulin E levels were high. Look, please just listen to me for a second... before you go running off for surgery (wait, seriously? All because of an allergy?? xD), go see a private specialist or a top-tier ENT first. My doctor actually pointed out that a deviated septum can be a massive issue for certain people, especially if you’re dealing with allergies—the allergens just get trapped in there and everything gets blocked up. He also made it very clear that you can't "operate" away an allergy. It’s just something you live with, period. You might take an antihistamine here or there, sure, but why put your body through unnecessary surgery? Just don't waste your time.

First off, major points off to the doctor for not giving you a clear explanation of what the actual issue is. That seems to be the standard at most hospitals; they just grunt through it because they're busy with more critical cases. To them, minor corrections or smaller procedures aren't the priority—it's more like dealing with a brain tumor (which would go to neurosurgery, though ENT surgeons usually handle head surgery too)...
Nasal septum deformity—basically a deviated septum... though if you can breathe normally, calling it a "severe" deformity seems a bit much. Honestly, almost everyone has some level of deviation. People really shouldn't bother with surgery unless there's an actual problem... And mucus—that means something involving the mucous membrane... are you dealing with stuff constantly draining from your nose down into your throat?
