How much time and patience are you willing to put into discovering new bands and music, and what's y

So, I guess what I’m getting at with my Miklis example is how interesting it was for me to stumble upon all those post-punk and new wave bands just five or six years ago.

Honestly, if you just stick to a handful of bands and never branch out, you might as well not even bother listening at all. Man, there’s just so much out there and yet we have such little time, but I’m always digging, listening to new stuff, hunting down new records or finding those weird old gems. There’s something for everyone out there, really... music just doesn't have an end or any boundaries 👍

Exactly. There aren't really any boundaries when you listen to pretty much everything. My 1 TB hard drive (with only about 83 GB left) is broken down into these folders:

The 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s... all those decades of Brown Sugar songs about heroin. 😬 Chill-out, Christmas, country, disco, domestic stuff, electronic, funk, Goa / psychedelic trance, hits, Movie Soundtracks, folk, Nazi, others, serious, pop, Psychedelic rock, punk & HC, Punk-HC-Folk, rap, rock (there's a bit of everything).

Plus an external 500GB hard drive.

Since I'm a total trash lover, I actually enjoy listening to the absolute worst pop garbage out there. Honestly, some of these total flops even make it onto my top lists—like Luka Nižetić's Premiere. 🙏 🙏 🙏 So, it’s basically limitless. No boundaries at all.

I tend to dive deep into one genre at a time... I don't stop until I've uncovered every single gem worth hearing.😬
First it was metal... then I moved through blues, jazz, new wave, classical, bossa nova, and so on. Honestly, I've been stuck on country for a few months now.😁

You’re totally right, there’s way too much music out there and just not enough time (or sometimes enough data on my phone plan 😁). I usually find bands either through Last.fm recommendations or because they're constantly being hailed as "legends" in the media, so I'll go check them out myself. I have a list of maybe 30 bands on my phone that I've heard of, but honestly, I don't know anything about them yet—I'm moving pretty slow, I guess :P
And most of them are older bands. I don't know why, but new stuff just doesn't really grab me. Maybe I'm just too used to that 80s sound? Or maybe I'm waiting for them to become legends first? It’s kind of a bummer though, because in 30 years people will ask what I was listening to and I'll have to say, "Oh, just old stuff, I totally ignored everything modern." 😢
Anyway, I'm willing to put in some work, and it usually pays off big time (like with the Stone Roses, Suede, The Smiths, EKV, or AFoS) 😍
Now I'm slowly diving into early 80s goth, so we'll see how that goes 🙂

I don't really have much patience for new releases 😢. I'll download an album, listen through it, pick out two or three good tracks, and then immediately delete it just to free up space on my computer for the next one. It’s a constant cycle. I really hate this little habit of mine.

Last.fm, YouTube, random forums... honestly, there are so many rabbit holes you can fall down just to find decent music recs. I was recently digging through Wikipedia and man, that metal database is insane—it’s got everything 😲 gothic, prog, doom... it’s all right there 😍
I’ll listen to pretty much anything, though lately I've been stuck on metal and atmospheric rock 😍
The one genre I absolutely, positively cannot stand is funk 😱 I don't even want to start exploring that mess, let's be real

A long time ago—I think I was just heading down to the kitchen for a snack—the house was so quiet that I decided to turn on the radio. I tuned it to one of those local stations, and suddenly, this track comes on that absolutely floored me. I ended up buying the whole album right then and there... ever since, whenever I'm grabbing a bite, I just flip on the radio or tune into something like NPR or KEXP 🤣

So I was at work the other day, right? Just had some random station playing in the background, don't even know which one... and man, I heard some absolute trash music. Like, total junk. Honestly? I decided right then and there that I am never turning on the radio ever again. 👍

I can't believe people actually fall for this mainstream garbage that gets shoved down our throats every single day... it's just a constant stream of manufactured nonsense designed to keep everyone distracted from what's actually happening right in front of us... kaže:

It was exactly like that with my punk phase about the same amount of time ago... one minute I'm just eating some canned chili and then suddenly I'm stuck in a smokehouse overflowing with premium brisket...
I feel like I've already swallowed enough of this garbage, but today it feels like they're just serving up nothing but cheap band pasties... there’s a little bit of bacon here and there, but finding some actual high-quality smoked brisket is becoming a damn rarity...

I open up some famous metal festival lineup and end up scrolling through bands from the absolute bottom of the list... groups that maybe three people on the planet have actually heard of... if I’m lucky, I might stumble upon an actual rising star who’s worth a listen xD but they're listed so small you can barely see them... honestly, these underground acts rarely deliver... I find them and they've already dropped five albums, yet they're still stuck at the bottom of the barrel... and yet, here I am, judging them xDD

Honestly, I don't think there's anything more rewarding than discovering a new band and watching how one discovery leads you down a rabbit hole to a second, then a third, and eventually a seventh, just spiraling endlessly in a beautiful loop.
It’s all part of the magic, really—until you start diving headfirst into jazz and classical music at the exact same time. I used to think 1.5 terabytes of storage was plenty for my collection, but well... here we are.

I’ve pretty much fallen down the jazz rabbit hole... I mean, don't get me wrong, classical music is top-tier stuff and objectively incredible, but it just hasn't really grabbed me the way jazz has. 🙏
