I have this little webcam for my monitor—it worked fine with Messenger a few years back. I haven't used it much since. Now that I've installed Skype, it just won't work. I'm running Windows XP Professional. I tried installing the driver from the small CD that came with the camera, but the computer isn't reacting at all; nothing happens. It’s not showing up in the Device Manager, so I assume the CD needs to be installed, but it's just not working. Does anyone know how to help?🤷🤷🤷

Is anyone actually going to help?

Should I just grab the driver directly from the manufacturer's website?

I have the original driver—but some genius is telling me the required software can't be found. I suppose I might need some specific utility to actually run the installation. Any idea which one?

What kind of software are we talking about here? Usually, just running the driver itself should be a breeze without needing any extra bloatware. If the driver comes with its own setup or installation file, I’d suggest kicking that off first. Otherwise, if it’s just a raw file, you can always head over to the Control Panel or dive into the Device Manager to get it installed manually.

If you could just let me know how—whether it's via the Control Panel or that other way.

If you're still running XP, then—if my memory serves me right—you should see an "Add New Hardware" option sitting right there in the Control Panel; that’s usually where it'll walk you through the driver installation process. Alternatively, if they've moved over to Windows 7, that specific menu option isn't really there anymore, so they'd need to head into the Device Manager and select "Update Driver Software" instead. Once they're there, just point them toward the correct driver file, and they should be all set to get everything installed properly.

Alternatively, they could try "update driver software" under Device Manager, since Windows 7 doesn't have that specific "add new hardware" feature. If you just point them toward the driver file, it should work fine.

Thanks, I'll see if I can make sense of it.

Neither one is working for me... maybe you could walk me through it step by step?

I managed to get everything set up and even had one video call—though my video froze about thirty minutes in, even though I could still see the other person. I didn't touch a thing, and my WEBCAM indicates it's capturing, so I guess I'm just lost here. Does anyone know what happened or what I should try next? Any help would be appreciated.
