About a month back, I finally pulled the trigger on a new graphics card—following the advice I got here, I went with an R7 250, though I ended up grabbing the GDDR3 version instead of the GDDR5 one.

Ever since I installed it, I've been dealing with this absolute headache. The screen just goes black, and then I get hit with that "display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error message.

I even tried messing around in the registry to set a TDR delay, but honestly? It didn't do a damn thing.

I'm already running the latest drivers available.

Does anyone have any actual advice on how to fix this?

Did you overclock it?

Have you tried rolling back to some older driver versions? Just make sure you completely wipe out the current ones before you attempt that.

I’m actually dealing with something similar on my Radeon HD 7970, but it really only seems to trigger when I'm using Chrome, and so far, I haven't been able to track down a fix either.🐔

I’ve noticed the exact same thing happening to me about once a month, usually while I'm settling in to watch a movie..
I went ahead and installed the latest drivers, and so far, everything seems to be running smoothly without any issues..

I only ran into this issue when I was running a Dual Monitor setup and my HDMI port was basically "empty"—meaning it was active, but there wasn't actually an HDMI cable plugged into the port.
It was a total fluke, but I noticed that as soon as I actually plugged the cable in, the whole thing stabilized.
Following my personal philosophy of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," I just left it exactly how it was, and honestly? It works just fine...

No.

I tried running things with the older version that originally came bundled with the graphics card—though, if I’m being honest, I didn't bother wiping the old drivers before I went ahead and installed the new ones...

I'll give it a shot and see how things shake out.

It keeps happening to me—it’s becoming a recurring nightmare. Sometimes, right during the macOS boot sequence, the whole thing just glitches out—multiple times in a row—until the entire system hits a complete, deadlock freeze.

Trying to get two or three tabs to fire up at the exact same time—it’s an absolute suicide mission.

Intel and those drivers... 🙂 I run into similar issues while browsing the web; I suspect there might be a fix out there somewhere...

Man, those ATI drivers are just straight-up buggy.
I’m dealing with the exact same thing on my old ATI HD 4800, but at least mine doesn't crash me right out of my games.
Instead, the colors just go wonky and the screen starts tearing—same error message every time. I've tried reinstalling and updating everything, but nothing helps.
Honestly? It’s just bad luck.
Or, you know, just swap out the GPU now. It'll save you both the time and the headache.
