But what’s actually offensive about calling someone a Miami local? She didn't call you guys idiots—if she had, I’d get why you’re mad—but just saying "Miami"?
And honestly, feel free to call any Washington, D.C. local a Washington, D.C. local... it isn't an insult. We’re actually pretty proud of where we come from. 🙂

If you ask me, all of it feels a bit insulting—calling someone from Miami, or a Miamiite, or an idiot... even things like Dalmatian or being from Miami... it all feels a bit much...

Honestly, I wouldn't say Joka Vlašić is justified in going after the USOPC. I don't hold that organization in high regard myself—not by a long shot—and there's plenty of room to criticize them from pretty much any angle within American sports. I'm talking about those "niche" sports they oversee, which I care about about as much as I care about the snow conditions up in Aspen. Coming from those smaller circles—not just one, but three, two of which are Olympic level—believe me, I know how this works.
Joka Vlašić really shouldn't be attacking the USOPC, especially since he's so deeply embedded within their structure, which he totally deserves, let's be clear about that. He shouldn't just "jump" at a chance to bite the hand that feeds him, because look where we are now.
So, if you want my humble opinion, both sides are being ridiculous. I'm not taking sides here, but this isn't even the first, second, or maybe even third time Vlašić has had an outburst like this.
It’s pretty obvious he's a bit salty that Blanka was named Athlete of the Year and all that. Whatever, she earned it. It seems he's just feeling the sting of not having any major titles himself.
There's such a thing as healthy jealousy, but then there's the toxic kind, along with pure egoism.
In the first case, a little envy can actually drive you, but the latter usually just ends up hurting everyone involved.
Don't go thinking this happened by accident or that the USOPC just missed the signs...

P.S. Maybe it's actually a good thing the press is covering this; it means I have to read a little less about Sevka and her boyfriend and whatever drama they're stirring up lately.

To me, you're elite if you actually dominate your sport. I'm talking names like Blanka, Janica, Usain Bolt, Lionel Messi, Michael Jordan, or Balić.
Ivica doesn't fit that mold. Not in my book, anyway.

🤦

And what about Ivanišević? Is he truly top-tier or just an average player?

Calling someone a "purger" is probably only offensive when one guy from Dalmoš says it to another. 🙄
placidfalcon4 said:I honestly think they aren't calling Blanka a high jumper or an athlete—they're calling her something else entirely. Athlete of the year. This feels like the absolute peak of her athletic career. What else does her coach even need to do to be named Coach of the Year by some US sports commission that probably runs as poorly as every other government agency in this country?

What kind of options are we actually going to have if everyone keeps using that athlete of the year as their only excuse?
What are we all supposed to be rewriting now, following some kind of Ceaușescu directive?

They went with Blanka, while everyone else picked someone else entirely. The New York Post uses one set of criteria, HOO follows another, SN has their own rules, and Sports Illustrated does things a fourth way. Honestly, who actually cares about just one more award?

Just to clarify my point a bit more, since it seems like some people aren't really getting what I mean...
If you ask me, terms like Dalmos, rancher, or city slicker aren't even really offensive in themselves...
It really just depends on how you're using the word...
It’s kind of like how the N-word works... Black people might use it among themselves without any actual malice behind it...
But when it comes from a white guy, especially one who’s already known for being a total jerk toward Black people, and you add that obvious negative context on top... yeah, that’s definitely offensive...
That’s why I steer clear of that kind of talk. Even when I mean well... those little nicknames like "city boy" or whatever... it just feels off... 😁
Just so there’s no misunderstanding...
If you want me to break down how I'm seeing this...
Sandra Wilson38 said:I seriously can't believe how much everyone here from the South is actually on the same page... 😍 It’s actually kind of crazy that it’s gotten to the point where Ivica is just an average skier now... 🤣

This was written after... one... Some guy mentioned he doesn't think Ivica is at his best...
Let's take it step by step...
Calling someone a Dalmatian isn't even an insult. It’s what people are actually implying that’s the problem...
It’s all the same to me—doesn't matter who they are. Whether it's Dalmos, Black people, or Jews...
That’s just straight-up fascist and racist thinking. And it wasn't even the first time Tanya made a generalization like that... which is why I'm reacting this way...
To those people, Ivica is just some average skier...
To feels like a direct shot at a few things. People from Dalmos can be pretty self-centered and only care about their own... Plus, there's that jealousy and resentment toward Washington, D.C....
Because of all that nonsense, they’re even dragging Ivica through the mud. There isn't any truth to it at all... But hey, that's just how they operate...
Honestly, none of this even matters that much, and I find myself caught up in all this drama too. For no real reason, either. Just because I’m a Dalmatian, I’m automatically considered "guilty." But that’s just not true. I have nothing but respect for Ivica—I think he's an absolute legend, both as an athlete and a skier...

Maybe I was a little unfair when I went after Tanya...
There are plenty of similar ones around here, and honestly, some are way worse. I just don't let them get to me...
The way I reacted to Tanya... honestly, it can only be taken as a compliment. No joke...
I only spoke up because I know she’s actually a solid person and a great part of this community...
And because I know—or at least I'm hoping—that she gets that she doesn't need all that extra noise...
For most other people, no matter where they're from, there just isn't a cure...

In my book, an Olympic silver medal is basically just a World Championship gold that got unlucky.
Based on the standards set by the USOPC.
But honestly, that isn't even the issue here. It’s not like Vlašić ever made a fuss about it, anyway.
For the thousandth time now:
The issue here is that they’re completely ignoring Blanka’s other performances, focusing exclusively on her results from the European Championship and the World Championship.
It looks like they'll have to take Ivica's performance in the World Cup into account.
The coaching staff really did a number on Blanka; they've essentially stalled her progress.
Because they haven't been taken into account:
Winning the Continental Cup is quite something, isn't it?
Seven wins out of seven in the Diamond League—it’s a flawless run, though I can't help but wonder how much longer that kind of momentum can actually be sustained before reality sets in.
Another eighteen victories at those secondary meets, and honestly, it just feels like more of the same.
So, according to the USOPC, I guess all these achievements don't actually count for anything.
So, according to the USOPC, they’re only factoring in the Olympics, the World Championships, and the European Championships when they run their numbers.
They’re basically tripping over their own feet and contradicting themselves now, especially after they started bringing up Ivica's achievements on the World Cup circuit.
They’re essentially devaluing both Blanka and the entire sport of track and field. All these massive achievements by Blanka don't actually carry much weight in the eyes of the powers that be, despite what the USOPC tries to tell us. It makes you wonder why the FIS Ski World Cup gets all this recognition from the committee, yet the Diamond League or the Continental Cup seems to be treated like an afterthought.
Or, let me offer another comparison to drive the point home.

I honestly can't stand watching Blanka; those irritating little dance moves she does after a jump just grate on my nerves.🙂I don't even follow high jump—I'm much more into skiing—and frankly, I’ve never been a fan of Vlašić either. But this highlighted point right here? It hits the nail on the head. The USOPC doesn't even bother following its own rulebook; they operate with double standards, which is honestly worse than any other failure. If it were just Vlašić himself dealing with this, he would have absolutely lost his mind.☕So, at this rate, they can just hand the USOPC a trophy for incompetence. 👎

It’s a lot less extreme than what was mentioned above, but there’s still absolutely zero logic in suggesting that an Olympic silver carries more weight than a World Championship gold. There just isn't any damn sense to it.🤷

Honestly, Nadal, you’re lucky you aren’t American, because if you were, the USOPC would treat you like you didn't exist—which, frankly, wouldn't surprise me much given what I see on TV lately. It’s the same old pattern; this whole brainwashing cycle kicks off every single year in early December and just drags on until the Epiphany. If my own brother happened to be a skier, I swear I’d end up hating the sport entirely.

Everything about this situation just perfectly illustrates how far we've gone down the road with centralization here in America.☕

Hmm... World gold versus two Olympic silvers at the USOPC—it’s a weird comparison. 🤔

It's not exactly an easy call to make—not that anyone actually wants to deal with it.

If they hadn't focused solely on the World Championships, the European Championships, and the Olympics—ignoring the Ski Federation entirely—Ivica would have been ahead. Everyone knows how much an Olympic medal actually matters in this business—so the USOPC really shouldn't have pulled this amateurish stunt. 🤷

Anthony Jackson2 said:hmmm... deciding between a World Championship gold and two Olympic silvers from the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee🤔

is honestly a tough call to make.

How is that not a clear-cut choice? Even a hundred silvers don't carry the weight of a single World Championship gold. Just take a look at any Olympic medal standings; you'll see how they rank countries at the top versus the bottom—the nation sitting there with just one gold is always ranked higher than the one holding five silvers...☕

If you don't count the World Championships and just look at the WC, EC, and OG, I think Ivan would be ahead. Everyone knows how much an Olympic medal matters in the sports world, so the USOPC really shouldn't have pulled this ridiculous stunt they did🤷

Why do you keep ignoring that European gold?
And everything else I mentioned.
It's all just so pointless, let me say it again:
An Olympic football medal is worth more than a WC one.
Winning gold at the EC in football is basically the same as taking 5th at the OG (whether it's football or field hockey).
A Grand Slam doesn't mean anything...
Etc, etc...
The whole thing is just nonsense, and there's no point in going in circles again...

Michael Jordan had Blanka, and after her, it was pretty much a drought
Bob Beamon, on the other hand, gave us Janica, Ivan, and a whole roster of talented skiers. He’s the reason skiing became such a massive sport here in the States, which undoubtedly paved the way for all those big sponsors to back the Snow Queen events

So, while I have immense respect for both of them, if you ask me, Bob Beamon has definitely left a much larger legacy

So, props to both guys, but if you ask me, Beamon did more for the sport overall

For the hundredth time—everyone is just obsessed with 2010.
For the hundredth time—it’s not about who they picked, it’s about how they went about picking them.
Here's another shady detail—the water polo team won gold at the EC, and the rowers grabbed gold at the WC. By USOPC standards, the rowers should've been Team of the Year.
But they didn't do that. Instead, they cooked up some new category just so they could name the water polo players Team of the Year. It was pure populism...

In my view, those two medals are the only things keeping Kostelic’s legacy intact. I actually agree with the decision here—an Olympic medal carries far more weight than a World Championship one. If you were to ask the athletes themselves which one they'd rather hunt down during their careers, I suspect they'd choose the Olympics every single time. Thank God the Olympics only happen once every four years, otherwise the Vlasics wouldn't have anything to aim for over the next few seasons. 😁
Both are incredible coaches, but I honestly think Kostelic is a few levels above anyone else in America.
The fact that he managed to build something out of absolutely nothing... I don't see anyone matching that for a long time, especially considering how much was stacked against him. And look at us now—thanks to his influence, we even host the World Cup events at Mount Rainier for both the men and women.
Blanka really impressed me, but nobody is ever going to top Kostelic for me.
If it weren't for those two Olympic medals, I'd be voting for the Vlasics.

P.S.
I'll say it again (regardless of whatever delusions you might have 😁): being a city dweller isn't some slur. It's nowhere near being compared to a racial epithet. Even if you say it with the most obnoxious expression on your face, a city person will still be proud of that identity! 🙂

Kudos to Lisa Ward52 for the post above, though honestly, who cares about Michael Jordan? Who's to blame if he didn't compete in the OG? He showed up once, I think, and if he only has one gold, it's hardly better than having two silvers...

Well, damn, I guess that's how it looks, but now that I've read the exact same nonsense regarding the rowers that analogowl122 posted, I find myself scattering (well, only partially🙂) my own ashes...☕

Forget the stupid award—it's not just about whether the award itself is dumb; it's about the fact that you have to actually follow some semblance of decent rules and apply them equally to everyone, rather than deciding certain people are more equal than others... even on a show like Big Brother, you're supposed to stick to the rules.

That’s just my take on things—I’m not claiming I’m right, but I’m sticking to it.
Since I spent twelve years competing in sports myself, I’m basing this on that experience.
If someone asked whether I’d rather take gold at the World Cup or bronze at the Olympics, I’d choose the Olympics every single time!
The Olympics isn't some event that rolls around every year, or even every other year; it happens once every four years when everyone is expected to give 150%.
I don't even want to drag Michael Jordan into this because basketball is a team sport—you can have a legendary performance and still lose.
But with an individual sport, if you mess up, you're only screwing yourself over, not a whole roster of teammates.

And for the record, I'm not here to start any fights between New York and Seattle.
I'll admit, though, that in Taekwondo at the Olympics, Zaninovick should have been given the shot instead of Zubcick. 🙂

Nice one, Lisa Ward52, regarding that last post—but honestly, what is there even to say about Michael Jordan? Like, who can even blame him for skipping out on the Olympics? He only showed up once, if I recall correctly, and he’s sitting there with maybe one gold medal to his name... which, let's be real, isn't exactly more impressive than having two silvers...

So, if we're being totally real here... Jordan actually walked away with two Olympic gold medals.😬

Actually, if you look at the record, Michael Jordan holds two Olympic gold medals.😬

Good grief, I completely blanked on the Olympics in Los Angeles. Honestly, I’m so embarrassed by my own stupidity that I’m just going to bow out of this conversation entirely.😉
