Hey everyone,

Here’s my situation. About two months ago, I noticed some swelling and pain in my left armpit whenever I sleep on my left side. After waiting a month, I finally went to see a doctor and had an ultrasound done. The specialist told me it isn’t a swollen lymph node, but just a cluster of fatty tissue—basically a lipoma. Apparently, these show up when you gain weight and supposedly disappear if you lose weight or get some cosmetic work done. Has anyone else dealt with this? How did you handle it, or did it even go away at all? Honestly, I’m starting to get a little anxious because it isn't budging, and it's becoming a real nuisance...😢

I’ve got that exact same thing under my left arm. It gets really sore and swollen, especially right before my period starts. Honestly, they told me the same stuff they told you... It even hurts toward my left breast, so I actually went in for an ultrasound (it took everything in me to go because I was so terrified), but the doctor said everything looked totally fine. So now, I guess I just live with it...

I’ve dealt with my own lumps before, though never right under the armpit, and honestly, this is the first time I’ve ever heard anyone suggest there might be a link between those and weight fluctuations.
I don't personally believe they’re just going to vanish on their own, but then again, I’m certainly no doctor. If I were in your shoes, I’d definitely go out and get a second opinion just to be safe.

How big are we talking when it comes to this fatty tissue?
To be honest, I have a family member who dealt with the exact same thing—though in her case, it was under both armpits, with the right side being significantly larger, which eventually led her to get it surgically removed.
The reality is that the size fluctuates quite a bit depending on whether you're gaining or losing weight. If someone actually wants to have it taken out, the best move is to consult a plastic surgeon. They’ll usually suggest getting an ultrasound or a biopsy first to see what we're dealing with before recommending the next steps—whether that means a full surgical excision or just some targeted liposuction. If you have any other questions about how this works, please feel free to ask.
