We all know that when it comes to processing AVI files, Handbrake is basically the king of the hill—but does anyone know if there's a similar powerhouse out there specifically for other formats, particularly mpg or mpeg?

I mean, say you have a file where you want to swap out the existing audio for an improved version—you know, just to get that perfect sound without having to go through the whole nightmare of re-ripping the entire video from scratch!

I’m pretty sure you can work with MPG files in Handbrake too. You can load them right up, though you'll need to export them as an AVI using whatever codec you pick under the video compression settings. I believe there are some Handbrake extensions out there that add support for extra formats, including MPEG.

I haven't actually tested this specific workflow myself, so I can't say for certain if it'll behave perfectly. Honestly, I don't much care which format we end up saving in, as long as the file is playable and easy to edit.
You might want to check out VirtualDubMod just to be safe.

I also suspect there might be some plugins for Handbrake that expand its support for other formats, including MPEG.

I haven't actually given that a shot myself, so I can't say for certain if it works! Honestly, though, I don't really care what the final format ends up being—as long as the file actually opens and lets me edit it, I'm happy.

Oh, I am well aware that Handbrake can do that, but then you run into the issue of having to rip everything into an AVI format—which either degrades the video quality or just makes the file size balloon like crazy, right?

That said, I did a bit of digging on Google and stumbled upon a decent little program called WinX DVD. It has its own set of quirks, of course—it's not perfect!—but for instance, it can process a 3 or 4-minute clip in under two minutes (assuming you're going from MPG to MPG, though it supports others too). Plus, it handles audio normalization right within the software itself.
I even poked around in Adobe for a bit, and frankly, it's a step up from the previous one; however, it runs a bit slower because, well, it has to re-encode the whole video again.

I actually stumbled upon that WinX DVD software the other day, and I have to say, I’m quite impressed with it so far! That said, I’ve run into a few points of confusion, so if anyone here is willing to lend some clarity, I would be immensely grateful.
--When I'm hardcoding subtitles onto a video, I can't seem to find the option to add a black outline to the text. It's a bit of a nuisance because whenever the background turns white, the letters just vanish into thin air.

I did manage to dig up some instructions over at this link: http://bestsoftware.coolpage.biz/1po...o%20Wizard.htm

Does anyone happen to know how to give letters a black outline?

So, what exactly is going on here? Is anyone actually in the loop?

Are you talking about Netflix or something else?

Go to http://www.womble.com/download/index.html and download the PDF User Guide. You should probably read it.

Look, man—the reason I even bothered posting this question on the forum is because there’s absolutely nothing about it in the help section. Nowhere in the documentation does it even mention the term outline
. If you wouldn't mind taking a quick look just to be certain, I'd really appreciate it.

I guess the software isn't quite as great as people claim if it lacks an outline setting for subtitles 🙂 and I'm not really interested in installing it just to find out if it actually works

It feels quite strange that they haven't included that—it really is such a vital feature. It’s a bit of a shame, honestly, because the software itself is fantastic; easily the best tool I’ve come across so far.
Anyway, it doesn't matter much since what I need is already here. Thanks.

Listen, man—you hit the nail right on the head. That is exactly it.
How on earth did you figure that out?

Once you have Adobe Premiere open, navigate to the Graphics tab in the center and select the T icon. Click inside the field and type your text. After typing, click somewhere outside the text box—do not hit Enter... Once that is done, click back onto the text, and it should appear framed by selection boxes. You can then drag it anywhere within the field. From there, select the Fila icon—it is the first of the six located beneath the T icon. After that, you can figure the rest out on your own...👍
