My mom’s getting a lipoma removed from her back in a few days. Anyone here actually gone through this before? Just wondering what the deal is with the risks...

Thanks in advance!

If you’re okay with having that unsightly little bump—you know, the kind you see on every third senior citizen down at the Jersey Shore—then I suppose the risk isn't much of a concern. I’ve actually heard stories about people just digging them out themselves! Honestly, my take is that nothing terrible will happen if you decide against surgery; it’s just an aesthetic issue. Of course, that assumes you're absolutely certain it’s just a harmless lump and not something more serious.

(🤮 based on those rumors I overheard at the beach)

I mean, let's be real here. What’s the worst that could happen? A tiny incision, a quick removal, and you can be back home within the hour. It’s really not that big of a deal...

It’s actually a benign tumor, so I know it’s not life-threatening... but still, I'm low-key stressing out. Thanks for the heads up 🙂

A few years back, I had to go under the knife to remove a massive lipoma from my back. It’s actually a pretty straightforward procedure, though in my case, the surgeon couldn't just do it as an outpatient visit—even though he originally planned to—simply because mine was exceptionally large.
To be honest, I was way more anxious about the whole general anesthesia thing than the actual surgery itself, mostly because I'd had a pretty rough experience with it in the past. I eventually managed to talk the medical team into performing the procedure under local anesthesia instead, and I have to say, watching everything happen while being awake was quite a fascinating experience.
I ended up with a significant scar, but it's quite thin and hasn't caused me any issues whatsoever.

I’m pretty sure one of my cousins had that surgery done. It’s honestly not even a big deal 🤷
