Why was 2011 such a big year?

Does anyone happen to know what major social milestones or big events defined 2011?
I'm trying to pinpoint a specific moment or maybe some kind of global observance that really captured the vibe of that year.
Just looking for the big picture stuff.
I’m not talking about random personal theories or weird predictions,
more along the lines of breakthroughs in science, shifts in the art world, or something of that nature.

Thanks in advance!

It’s officially the International Year of Chemistry. 😉Seriously,

Thanks a ton 👍

Anyone else got some extra info on this?

The International Year of Forests 😁

-Vrisak 4 is making its way to theaters.
-There won't be a Miss California pageant for 2011 because they’ve already picked next year's winner (what can I say—these people are visionaries living ahead of their time) 😲 ! (those first two results were just what Google spat out at me)
-The census data will be released 👋
-the Rio Carnival style festivities, local events
-our museums haven't even bothered to announce their new exhibitions for 2011 yet 😢

Is there even anything bigger than the World Cup coming to the USA?

100 years of the Los Angeles Dodgers ☕

December 21, 2011. That will mark almost exactly one year until the world ends. ☕

Maybe I'll actually graduate... if I feel like it.

By this time next year, I’m going to be a millionaire.

Once the Democratic Party pulls ahead, everyone already knows 👍
