Who would've thought? 13 Rue Noir hits AMC Theatres tomorrow, November 4th.

It’s being released by Forspan with an American English dub.

Hey, does anyone happen to know where I might be able to track down some subtitles for 13 Rue Noir?

I started swearing practically right after the opening scene (Géla Babluani mentioned he was going to tweak the American remake 13 Tzameti, but I really wasn't expecting such a slap in the face). Everything about the beginning of this thing screamed disaster: I just couldn't get used to the color, since so much of the original's atmosphere relied on that black-and-white cinematography, which worked perfectly; then there's Riley as Sebastian, who was totally lackluster (please don't even get me started on that sappy little sentimental family drama crap)... and then everything just ground to a halt about ten minutes in. It was all wrong from the jump. Jason Statham was great, Mickey Rourke actually rose to the occasion (and I was honestly terrified they only hired him to play some background extra), and Ray Winston (playing Statham's lightning-fast brother) was excellent too... but then I started getting annoyed with Michael Shannon. Michael Shannon, man! As an arena moderator, what a role! He’s basically Agent Nelson van Alden from the FBI. I absolutely love that actor. All that's left to see is whether they messed with the lightbulb. The bulb is the main character in 13 Tzameti, so if they ruined that, they ruined the whole movie. Luckily, they didn't, and the rest of the film works really well. And most importantly, they didn't change the ending. Thank God!

My rating?

Géla Babluani should be proud of himself, truly proud—he did an excellent job with this film (and he remains one of my favorite directors).

Go watch 13, highly recommended.

I haven't actually sat down to watch the original one yet, but honestly? This version hits way harder. That whole setup with the lightbulb and that twisted "deadly game" they play... man, it's just intense. And then it's over 👍. Definitely worth checking out if you have the time 🙂.

Honestly, you should check out the original, because 13 Rue Noir is arguably the superior film (which wouldn't be surprising). In that one, Vince is played by Sebastian, and he’s portrayed by George Babluani—the director's brother, who was actually pretty great in the role.

Atmospheric, well-acted, and intense. Still, watching the lead character dive headfirst into something he clearly knows nothing about feels like it borders on pure stupidity. Either that, or I just missed how all the pieces fit together. 🤷 7/10

I watched the movie. I might go back and see the original. It was excellent; alongside Inception, it’s easily my favorite film from 2010.

My rating is a 9/10. It only misses a perfect score because it would have been better if they had shown Jason Statham's facial expression when he opens the bag of "money" at the end and finds the stuffed sheep meant for Vince's little sister. Alexander Skarsgård was also great; he proved he can act outside of his role on HBO's True Blood.

One question at the end... Why did they take the heels off Vince's shoes when Jack dropped him off at that hideout? Was it to prevent him from running, or were they checking if he had something hidden in them?😕

I honestly think they were checking to see if there was a tracking device—because otherwise, why would those house locations even be on the same axis? It makes zero sense. 🤷

edit: hey, just a heads-up—maybe toss a spoiler warning in there next time you're talking about specific plot points? Like that whole situation with Jasper and the bag... I've already seen the movie, so no biggie for me, but someone scrolling through this thread who hasn't watched it yet might be pretty pissed if you ruin a major twist like that. Just a thought.

edit: also, use a spoiler tag next time when you discuss plot points (specifically the part about Jasper and the bag)... I've already seen the movie so it doesn't matter to me, but someone who hasn't seen it might jump on this thread and have the whole thing ruined by your post.

sorry, it wasn't intentional...😵 Can a moderator please redact the spoilers from my post? Anyone??? 🙈
