Hey guys, has anyone checked out Gulf yet? People keep saying Oscar always goes to the most pathetic films, which—honestly—might be true. This one is a bit short, but man, the story is intense and just hits you hard—it’s all about that dolphin tragedy in Japan... It plays out like a thriller, really well edited and shot too... But the biggest thing is that you actually believe these people care about what they're doing... which is rare, I guess. It's not even as devastating as everyone says it is... You might feel bad for the dolphins, but hey, stuff like this needs to be seen.

Definitely give it a watch and let me know what you think! He’s touring through Europe and Tokyo right now, and I think I saw he might be hitting up San Francisco soon, too.

Here’s the trailer... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPlKgL_rtj4

That bolded part caught my eye.
What do you mean "you feel like they care"? Seems pretty obvious from the jump. They didn't do all that work just to make a movie.

I’ve seen the ad pop up a few times now, and there it is again at the top of the forum... Do you guys remember Pinball? 😢

I’m guessing it’s absolutely devastating? I tried sitting through Earthlings, but I just couldn't do it... It was too much. I started tearing up after only a minute and had to shut it off. Are they even remotely similar? 😢

I watched it and honestly, it was pretty powerful. You can't help but feel for those dolphins once you realize the actual reason behind such a massacre.
@ Laura Booth6: The movie is devastating and heavy, but I don't think you have to sit there sobbing through the whole thing because a huge chunk of the documentary focuses on the crew's mission to capture what’s actually happening out in the Gulf. It keeps things intense and engaging enough that you're really rooting for them to pull it off in the end. For me, the only moment that truly hit home was when the activist described seeing a wounded calf trying to make a break for it, but just couldn't quite make it 😢.

I mean, sure, they probably weren't doing all that just for the cameras—but I’ve watched so many movies where you just get this nagging feeling that the main characters are totally fake... which is why, for me, that's actually a pretty huge deal when deciding if you can even trust the people in a documentary... otherwise, the whole thing just kind of falls apart!

The quality is solid, don't get me wrong—but honestly? I don't think the internet could ever actually replace the cinema experience for me. You just can't replicate that massive projection, the immersive sound, or even those little chats with people after the credits roll... the whole vibe is just better. I’ve downloaded stuff before, sure, but mostly only if I couldn't catch it on the big screen first.

You can go with the 720p HD option too, which actually looks pretty decent.
I'll grab it later 😎

Just finished watching it and honestly, it’s great.
If you're into stuff like Sharkwater—you know, all that intense footage of sharks and fins—this is definitely worth your time.
