rustydrifter10 said:How often am I supposed to run CCleaner and Malwarebytes now? 😕
Not sure if I need them daily... both at once... one after the other...?? 🤷
Like this:
CCleaner just clears out the junk that builds up while you're surfing or just using the PC.
If you're on it heavy, maybe cleaning things up every few days helps it run smoother. I usually just do mine every 3 or 4 days.
Malwarebytes is an anti-malware and anti-spy tool meant to scrub the system of nasty apps that standard antivirus software might miss, so paired with a good AV, it’s solid protection.
Running it once a week is enough, just make sure to update the definitions before doing a full scan.

If this problem persists, try reloading the page, using the older version or using basic HTML mode. Learn more. 😕
I clear it, but my email still won't work... then suddenly it does... then it goes back. It's just a loop... 🙄
Is there any hope here, or should I just head back to the 1900s and start writing letters and collecting stamps? 🙂
It sounds like you've got some deeper system issues going on, maybe:
- A Windows installation that was botched from the start or just got messy over time
- Various viruses messing with the hardware that your antivirus can't catch (like rootkits)
Actually, there are viruses that "freeze" your antivirus so it looks like it's running when it really isn't.
And some viruses block access to antivirus sites entirely so you can't even download help.
The fix for your rig is probably:
- Figuring out what's actually wrong
- Using specific tools to fix it or just nuking it and doing a fresh Windows install if necessary

You know, if you're anything like me, you probably don't realize how much digital junk builds up every single time you're browsing the web or just getting through your daily tasks on your PC. It’s kind of like how dust settles all over your living room in a place like Chicago if you don't sweep once in a while! That’s exactly where CCleaner comes in handy—it basically acts as a specialized cleaning crew for your computer, sweeping away all that leftover trash and temporary files that accumulate from surfing the net and general usage. It keeps everything running a bit smoother by clearing out the clutter that naturally piles up.
If you’re really putting your computer through its paces and using it heavily every single day, I’ve found that you pretty much need to do a little digital spring cleaning every few days just to keep everything running smoothly. Personally, I make it a point to clear out the clutter every three or four days—it honestly makes such a massive difference in how snappy the whole system feels!
If you aren't already running Malwarebytes, you really should consider adding it to your toolkit. It’s a fantastic anti-malware and anti-spyware tool that specializes in hunting down those nasty, malicious applications that standard antivirus software often misses entirely. In my opinion, when you pair it with a solid, reliable antivirus, you end up with a seriously robust layer of protection for your computer.
Thanks so much for this! I really appreciate it. 😍
Honestly, you don't need to overthink it—just run it once a week. Just make sure you hit that update button to refresh the definition database before you kick off a full system scan, and you should be golden!
I honestly have no clue what I’m looking at here. 🙈
I mean, I’m assuming you just have to flip the switch to turn it on, but if that's all it takes, why wouldn't anyone just say so from the jump? It seems like such a simple fix! 😕
Honestly, if you ask me, you’re probably looking at some totally different system issues here. I mean, there could be a whole laundry list of things causing this kind of headache!
I’ve been looking at this specific Windows installation, and honestly, it’s a bit of a mess. It feels like either someone did a really sloppy job setting it up from the jump, or—more likely—it’s just been tweaked and poked at so many times over the years that everything is starting to drift out of alignment. You know the feeling when a system just starts feeling "off"? It’s like one of those old houses where the floors are slightly slanted because so many renovations were done without fixing the foundation first. It's just fundamentally wonky.
You know that incredibly frustrating feeling when your PC starts acting completely possessed—everything is lagging, things are moving on their own, and you just know something is wrong—but then you run your standard security software and it tells you everything is perfectly fine? It’s enough to drive anyone up the wall! The real headache comes from those nasty little rootkits. They aren't like your typical annoying pop-up viruses; they are much more sinister because they actually embed themselves deep within the operating system. They essentially hijack the very foundation of your computer, which means your usual antivirus programs can't even see them because the malware is basically hiding behind the "eyes" of the system. It’s like having a burglar hide inside your security camera feed so the monitor shows an empty room while they're actually standing right there in the kitchen! Once a rootkit takes hold, standard cleaning tools often just bounce right off them, leaving you stuck with a machine that feels broken despite all your efforts to fix it.
Everything was running smoothly just a little while ago... and then, out of nowhere, everything just completely fell apart. It’s like nothing is working right anymore. @rustydrifter10, honestly, it isn't even anything major—just my web browser and Word acting up. 🙄
You know, I was thinking about this the other day—there’s actually this nasty breed of malware out there that basically "freezes" your antivirus software in place. It’s incredibly deceptive because everything on your screen looks totally normal; the dashboard says you're protected, the scans appear to be running smoothly, and it gives you that false sense of security, but in reality, the software is completely paralyzed. It's just a hollow shell pretending to work while the virus runs wild right under its nose.
Man, I’ve been seeing this lately, and it is honestly such a nightmare to deal with! There's this specific type of malware out there that basically hijacks your connection and blocks you from even reaching the websites for major antivirus companies. It’s like being locked inside a house where all the doors and windows are boarded up—you know the help is out there, but you can't actually get to it to fix the problem. It's incredibly frustrating because you realize you're compromised, but the very tools you need to clean things up are being held hostage by the virus itself. If anyone else is stuck in this loop, hang in there; it definitely takes some workarounds to bypass those blocks and finally get a legitimate scanner downloaded.
Those people are just nothing but a bunch of scammers! 🙂
The fix for your computer is definitely this:
Let me dive into this and try to break down exactly what we're looking at here, because there's definitely a lot to unpack. I wanted to take a moment to really dig into the core of the issue and perform a deep dive into the problem itself, so we can all get on the same page about what’s actually going sideways.
You might want to try running some repair tools to see if you can fix things up, but honestly, if the system is acting really wonky, just going ahead with a fresh installation of Windows might be the cleanest way to get everything back in working order.
A friend of mine actually warned me a few months back that I should just wipe everything and do a fresh install of Windows before all these headaches started, but honestly, I didn't think he was being serious at the time. I figured, hey, I already have the OS installed, so what's the big deal? Now, looking at the mess I'm dealing with, I'm starting to realize he was absolutely right! 😕 🙈 🤦

I guess you just gotta turn it on, but why wouldn't they just say that? 😕
There's like a third tab at the top, I think. Just click that before scanning and run an update.
A picture's worth a thousand words, so here:
First, hit "update"

Then click "Check for updates"

Then go back to the first tab and hit "full scan".
And that's basically it. 🙂

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I figured I'd just show you instead:
First, go ahead and click "update"
Then, hit "Check for updates"
After that, head back to the first tab and trigger a "full scan."
And that should do the trick! 🙂
You are a lifesaver! 🎉
Honestly, thank goodness for the amazing community spirit on this forum! 😍

Yeah, it sounds like that might be my only option. 🤷
Thanks for the heads up. 🙂

Man, honestly, it’s way easier than walking around like this...
Just toss the data onto a thumb drive and you're good to go. 🙂
