Men in their 20s and 30s who have frequent sex or masturbate about 20 times a month might face a higher risk of prostate cancer later in life.
While looking into what causes this disease, a research team at the University of Nottingham found that testosterone—the hormone tied to a high libido—is a major factor. Essentially, the prostate converts testosterone into an even stronger androgen called DHT, which drives cell growth in the gland and might even fuel the development of malignant cells. They reached this conclusion by studying the habits of 800 men, split evenly between 400 healthy individuals and 400 those diagnosed with the disease. Researchers tracked sexual activity starting from puberty and recorded histories of STDs. About 59% were sexually active roughly 12 times a month during their 20s, 48% in their 30s, 28% in their 40s, and 13% in their 50s. On top of that, nearly half reported having six or more lifetime partners.
Looking at it biologically, chronic masturbation can mess with your brain and body chemistry because of the massive surge in sex hormones and neurotransmitters. Everyone reacts differently to overproduction, though. It could just be basic fatigue, or it could lead to pelvic pain, vision changes, lower back pain, testicular pain, or even hair loss. There’s actually ongoing research right now investigating whether increased testosterone levels drive up DHT production, which is linked to male pattern baldness.
Question: Anyone here experienced this? Does having lots of sex or masturbating actually make you go bald? And what's your general take on this info?
Also, we see cases where some women push men to have sex way more than a few times a week, wanting their partner to cater to them multiple times a day.
