Greetings.

About ten days ago—maybe two weeks, I can't be certain—I noticed this tiny, painless lump right on my lower lip. It felt moderately firm to the touch. There weren't any open sores or anything visible on the surface at first. But since last night, it seems to have swollen up a bit more; likely because I couldn't stop poking and prodding at it, which was probably a mistake. This morning, I went to see my primary care physician. She initially suggested it wasn't anything serious and was actually debating whether a referral was even necessary, but she ultimately decided to send me on my way to a specialist. Once I saw the ENT, she palpated the area and told me it felt like a cyst. However, after administering local anesthesia and making an incision into my lip, she realized it wasn't just a simple cyst. She suspects it might be some kind of salivary gland tumor, though she expressed hope that it turns out to be benign. They’ve sent a sample off for pathology, and her official diagnosis noted: Tm mucosae labii oris inf.
Honestly, I am completely paralyzed by this waiting game. I can't focus on a single thing while I wait for these biopsy results to come back. Does anyone here have experience with this? What could this actually be, and realistically, what are the odds that this turns out to be nothing more than a benign growth?

Thank you.

Another thing. They actually asked me if I’d bitten myself—if that was the likely culprit behind all this. And look, I did have a little nip or a cut right before that lump started showing up, I remember it vividly. There was this distinct, sharp, almost acidic or spicy sensation every single time my tongue brushed against the wound. Now, whether that’s just a complete coincidence or if some kind of physical trauma can actually trigger a tumor... honestly, I haven't the slightest clue.

You bit yourself and now you’ve got this little bruise forming under the skin.
Just as a precaution, the doctor is sending a sample off for testing.
What do you think they’ll find? Black gold?

She didn't actually say it was just a hematoma, and she certainly didn't go so far as to say she's hoping it isn't malignant. It’s some kind of tissue, a tumor—my doctor is telling me there's a very high probability it's just some sort of benign mucosal tumor.
I honestly have no clue here, which is exactly why I'm asking.

Look, it’s probably just from biting it. My daughter actually sliced my lip open once; it’s been months and there’s still this weird thickening you can feel when I stretch it—I’m literally feeling it with my tongue right now. Don't spiral, doctors tend to overreact sometimes too... Are you a smoker? Like, if you hold your cigarette in the same spot, you know, like James Dean, are you pulling it out of your mouth? Honestly, it's fine. Wounds just heal slower for some of us, like they did for me...
