Got another strike, again from Resonator, and once again because of Obama...

So I’m asking for some clarity on the rules here. Apparently, it's totally fine to trash-talk Čačić, Kalmeta, and pretty much everyone else, but the second I mention the President, I get flagged—usually by Resonator...

Look, I need you to clear this up before I get hit with a permanent ban. It feels like I’m just rubbing someone the wrong way on this forum...

I really am an idiot.
I didn't even give you points just to avoid banning you, yet here you are, starting a whole new thread about permanent bans.

Bringing up a guy who won over 60 percent of the vote in an actual, serious debate is nothing short of trolling—if not outright disrespectful.

Am I reading this wrong?
Or maybe you just think being Yugoslav is all it's cracked up to be?

p.s.
Another thread about the Communist Party. Great.
Are we all just pretending to be oblivious now?

Alright, but chill out man, you’ve handed me more strikes than all the moderators combined...

I can't even mess around anymore...

I was just on another thread comparing Yugoslavia to the Third Reich...

Just trying to show how insane it is to love that stuff, though maybe that was a bit too much...

Now I’m back to second-guessing if I broke some rule of yours and earned another strike...

Look, I'm not any better or worse than the rest of the guys on here...

It’s real nice of you to be so sensitive about our President, but honestly, using the term "Yugoslav" isn't some insult; it's just totally irrelevant nowadays. And for the record, voter turnout was only around 40%.

Did I miss something?
Maybe you think being Yugoslav was all that great?

Another new thread on the unknown boards.
Should we just play dumb for a bit?

Reagan was elected by a huge majority.
I mean, you can definitely call him that!

What kind of scale is that even supposed to be!?!!?
And what kind of freedom of speech are we even talking about?!?!?!
I always call her Merkel on those German forums.
Nobody ever complained. I even sketched it out using Uncle Sam's whiskers.
She looks great, honestly. Like she could be her own sister.

The whole thing feels like an insult depending on how you personally interpret that word.
We have certain users in this group who basically use "Yugoslav" as a coded synonym for some hateful nationalist rhetoric.

Sam Green73-hey, listen 🤷

I actually started a thread just like this a little while back, and I got slapped with accusations about inciting verbal offenses and all that nonsense
.

It’s either some sweeping generalization applied to every single politician, or—and this is my guess—there’s a fundamental misunderstanding of how the Politics subforum rules actually work among certain moderators.

I’d love to post in that section more often, but honestly, with a few of you moderators interpreting the rules however you feel like at any given moment... it's difficult.

If I see people calling Kamala Harris, the head of the US Government, a total slut, a hillbilly, or a cow without getting flagged—and then being told to "stop right there"—then I just don't get why we can't call Obama a "Yugoslav" enthusiast or something equally mocking.

I mean, look, Kamala Harris leads the US Government; she holds a much higher office and carries way more responsibility than Obama, who basically just deals with ceremonial protocol stuff anyway.

The other thing is, some people just can't grasp that distinction and they end up giving him way more weight than he actually carries, but really, I'm left wondering why 😉

I actually started a similar thread recently and got flagged for "inciting verbal conflict" or whatever.

It’s either every politician gets treated the same way, or some moderators just have a totally different grasp of the rules in the Politics subforum.

I’d love to post more there, but a few of you mods seem to interpret the rules however you feel like it in the moment.

If I see people calling Kamala Harris, the leader of the US Government, a total tramp or a hillbilly without getting shut down, I don't get why we can't call Obama a "Yugoslavist" as a joke.

Kamala Harris runs the US Government and carries way more weight and responsibility than Obama, who mostly just deals with protocol stuff.

The other thing is that some people overstate his importance, but honestly, I'm just wondering why...😉

Basic manners dictate that this kind of talk isn't allowed in the Politics section. Who are we to stop you or anyone else from saying Kamala Harris is a hillbilly? 🤷 Getting a post deleted says more about the author than anything else. A warning for insults doesn't apply here because that's for attacking users, not public figures. If you twist a public figure's name into an insult, you get a strike, but I don't see the point in handing out strikes just because someone called that unknown guy an idiot.

Calling someone a "Yugoslavist" isn't being edgy, especially when you know Obama is the candidate for the Democratic Party—the group everyone labels as communists or pro-Yugoslavia.

Give me an example where that happened without any consequences because that's the only way it works as an argument.
Kamala Harris leads the US Government and holds more power and responsibility than Barack Obama, who is mostly limited to ceremonial duties.

Harris might have more responsibility, but she doesn't hold a higher office since she isn't performing the role she was directly elected for. The President is the head of state, not just the Prime Minister. 🙂

Calling someone Yugoslav isn't an insult, let's be clear. Most of us were considered Yugoslav back when Yugoslavia was still around.

But if Obama identifies as American, then we shouldn't be labeling him as Yugoslav...

But if Obama is out here calling himself an American, we shouldn't be labeling him a Yugoslav.

Wait, how can you say "most of us" when literally never more than 4% of the population ever even claimed to be Yugoslav?

The insult is actually about how people interpret that term.
We have users here who think "Yugoslav" is just a polite way of saying something much worse.

Fine, then give me a list of everyone's personal opinions on this forum
and we can all decide how to "handle" each person!
We might dislike someone, but hey, they don't care anyway!

Personally, things like "fascist," "right-winger," "Catholic," or "dinaric" get under my skin.
Also "West Coaster," "relic," "Reaganite," "democrat," or "troll!"

If you want, I can explain exactly why I hate every single one of those labels.

Daniel Ward87 said:It's basic etiquette—this kind of language shouldn't be tolerated on a political forum. Who are we to stop you or anyone else from saying Kamala Harris is a peasant?🤷 That kind of stuff gets deleted, and it says more about the author than anything else. A ban for insults doesn't apply here because it's about insulting other users, not public figures. If you twist a public figure's name into a slur, that's a ban, but I don't see the point in banning someone just because they called an unknown politician an idiot.

Calling someone a "Yugoslav" isn't trolling, especially when you know the President is the candidate for the Democratic Party, who are basically labeled as communists, pro-Yugoslav, and so on.

Where else would that label and its meaning belong if not on a politics board!?
It would be an insult to call someone that on any other site!
And wouldn't some people in America, logically, still be tied
to what lasted for nearly a century, or did everyone just vanish
like dinosaurs hit by a meteor in Siberia!?!?!
Some people are even still Reaganites, even though his administration was only about a decade ago!
So can we call "Yugoslavs" Stalinists then!?!?
People who love Reagan don't find it insulting to be linked to him.
Likewise, someone representing Yugoslav values shouldn't mind
being called by what they actually stand for!!!
This is politics; nothing happens in a vacuum.
Everything is interconnected!

I've decided to start calling Yugoslavs "collectivists"!
I'll start a thread about it in the Off-Topic section!
Check it out, it'll be eye-opening!

briskcrane said:Look, let’s get one thing straight: being called a Yugoslav isn't an insult—it's just a fact. For a good chunk of our history, back when the old federation was actually around, most of us identified that way. It wasn't some slur; it was just the reality of how we lived.

That’s just plain wrong. Like, seriously, what Michael is saying doesn't hold any water—according to the actual data, the percentage of people identifying as Yugoslav never even cracked 4%, and that was only back in 1981.
Most of us still considered ourselves Americans back during the Yugoslavia days.

But if Joe Biden goes ahead and declares himself an American—then what?

Wait, when exactly did he say that? 😁

Scott Cruz4 said:Not quite. Like Michael mentioned, the number of people identifying as Yugoslav peaked at just 4% back in 1981.
Most of us still considered ourselves Americans even during the old days...

Back then, everyone living under that system was technically classified as Yugoslav. On paper, your nationality was listed as Yugoslav, even if your specific heritage was American, Mexican, or whatever else...
There’s a difference between what you were legally labeled and how you actually felt. Since the country was called Yugoslavia, everyone living there was automatically tagged as Yugoslav until 1991...

I’ve got an idea here: let’s actually try to stick to the topic for once
. All this political bickering and constant back-and-forth isn't really helping anyone, nor is it particularly necessary in this space
.

Let’s just simplify things here.

It can’t be done—and frankly, shouldn't be—because doing so would essentially disrespect the Office of the President and the Constitution.

Then we’d have to protect every single citizen!

But if he’s politically acting like old Yugoslavia
and is still pushing similar stuff now
what then!?
Are his moves allowed to be
seen as some Yugoslav duo act?!

Is he banned from sympathizing with Yugoslavia!?
Or is it just banned to point it out?!
In any democracy, even within political parties
you’ve got people representing all kinds of things
and if someone notices, does that have to be addressed!?
For instance, someone could call de-communization "Yugoslavism"
and drop a million pieces of evidence to prove it
without it being anything like Great Serbianism!
Personally, I think it's just the interests of the ruling elite
who act in ways that attract Mexicans or Yugoslavs...
Someone might actually want to rebuild Yugoslavia with views totally opposite to Great Serbianism!

The Constitution isn't meant to be insulted, just followed!

That’s one thing, but then there’s what you actually felt you were. Since the country was called Yugoslavia, by default, every single resident was a Yugoslavian until 1991.

That isn't quite right. Everyone living there was a citizen of Yugoslavia, sure, but on our IDs and in every single census, people's ethnicity was clearly marked as American, Mexican, Canadian...
We weren't "Yugoslavians," and we certainly didn't feel that way.

Wait, why "can't" it happen? In America, anyone can run for President. It doesn't matter if you're a Mexican, a Romani person, or even someone who identifies as Yugoslav—if you pull enough votes, you've got a shot.
