New sanctions on Reddit

Please don't delete this thread—this is an official grievance. I already tried resolving this via DM, and while I received a response, I find the reasoning completely unjust, so I’m taking this to the public eye instead.

I came home from work today to a rather unpleasant surprise. The one single thread I actually contribute to regularly (Zidić- part II) has been wiped from existence. In my scramble to figure out what happened, I reached out to the admins—who were incredibly quick to respond, I'll give them that—but the core issue remains:

The reason provided for the deletion—supposedly because the thread was being used to organize meetups, violating site rules, and so on—is frankly absurd. Given that I post there daily and the thread spans over 25,000 posts, I find it impossible to believe the entire discussion was nothing more than a coordinated rule-breaking stunt—not that I find it hard to believe, mind you, I simply know it isn't true. If such violations were actually occurring, why weren't the specific users penalized or those individual posts removed? Why go for the scorched-earth approach of deleting the whole thread?

The question that prompts me to open this thread (hopefully without getting banned 😍):
Why is a user like me—someone with almost zero strikes over three years on this site—being punished by having my primary thread deleted? Did I somehow earn this sanction? Because if I truly violated the rules, why wasn't I issued a warning or a strike instead?

At this rate, moderation loses all its purpose—if your solution to any "problematic" thread is to just hit delete, then all you need is one admin with a finger on the button to make everything disappear 🤷

I have always viewed Reddit as a fair community where following the rules protects you from punishment. I follow the rules here, yet I am being penalized regardless.

I am looking for an explanation.

I’ve got two main threads going, and one used to be Zidić. Since when did they start wiping chat topics on the Off sub without any warning or public explanation? There were actually more people hanging out there.🤷

It's not even true, but seriously—just "delete me too," please, because this whole thing is just ridiculous.🙄

This is just beyond disrespectful and greedy.

Is it even possible for one thread on the Off section to be such an eyesore that the admin has to delete it? Not lock it, not moderate the posts, but wipe the whole thing out.

It’s like they’re flexing their power just to erase a group that people hate, making sure there isn't a single trace left behind.

If any of you had a hand in this, you went way too far.

Let me say it again: the only reason I ever signed up for Reddit was because of Zidić's crew. And no, I'm not going to let them be erased from existence. They are my friends, my sanity, my shoulder to cry on—they are family to me. 🙂

I have dealt with so much nonsense on this site that it actually hurt.

I’m jumping in to support this complaint. I’m a total lurker—basically invisible, really—with maybe four warnings on my entire "career" here, and I’m on Zidić's crew every single day. Honestly, I have no idea which one of the old ladies hanging out in Zidić's crew could possibly pose a threat to this site's reputation. If anything, this platform doesn't exactly enjoy a stellar reputation because you keep a handful of trolls alive just because they entertain you for some inexplicable reason. But hey, that’s not my business.
The problem is, you’re deleting Zidić. You’re wiping out a thread that was started out of pure goodwill—just to take all the chat and put it into a PDF format for the grandmas to read on TV. It was a thread that hit its post limit and got reopened as Volume 2, right?
No matter how much I posted in there, I never once saw any of our supposed "threats" actually turn into anything. Threats against clones, sabotage, whatever—we talk about that stuff every day just to blow off steam; it’s how we have fun. We aren't actually launching any coordinated attacks on the site. Quite the opposite, actually.
Certain users—members of Zidić's crew—have run into issues with the moderators. And I mean CERTAIN users, not everyone, and certainly not the whole of Zidić's crew, but specific individuals. We aren't a cult; we’re just Zidić's crew. It isn't fair to shut down an entire thread just because of personal vendettas. It isn't fair to me personally, or to Elizabeth Anderson63, Brenda Robinson79, Kimberly Garcia74, brisklynx51, and so on. What exactly did we do to deserve this kind of treatment? Where are we supposed to hang out now?

Bring back Zidić.

I honestly don't see the point. It makes zero sense to me why you'd just wipe out a legendary corner of Reddit like Zidić. Seems like a massive, impulsive overreaction. Look, people talk trash everywhere on this site, sure, but you give them a warning or a ban—you don't just delete an entire thread and erase two years of history in one go.
There were so many of my own posts in there, some that actually meant something to me, and now someone just nuked it all with a single click. It's wrong. 🤷

It’s not just about Zidić anymore; it’s about the Reddit users getting hit with permanent bans for absolutely nothing.

They’re banning a user just because an old alt account of hers had a partial ban on a different subreddit, and then that alt got nuked because it was linked to a permanently banned account. So, they strip her original permaban, but then—get this—they claim she should have known better than to post where her previously partially-banned alt was active.

They’ve gotten so tangled up in their own logic that they don't even realize how ridiculous they sound.

On top of that, they hand out another permanent ban to a female user under the excuse that she’s actually a clone of someone else who was originally banned, combined with her alt that had a partial/permanent ban.

If this wasn't so sad, it would actually be hilarious.

And just so we don't forget, Missy actually got banned in the first place simply because she went to the ban appeal corner to ask for an explanation for her ban.

Just lift the permanent bans on oblica and Missy.

Today is just absurd. Giving oblica a permaban is completely nonsensical. And someone needs to ban Miseducat again too. If that moderator didn't want them posting in MK, why on earth didn't Dolly just switch Miseducat over to a partial ban when they were originally banned?! Now she’s paying the price for his oversight. It's pure stupidity. oblica isn't anyone's clone—not in their wildest dreams.

It’s a blatant show of force—deleting an entire group of people just because they are disliked, leaving absolutely zero trace behind.

Let me reiterate: I joined this Reddit community specifically because of Zidić's crew. And no, I will not sit by while they are virtually erased. They are my friends, my sanity, my shoulder to cry on—they are family to me.🙂

Did those few mods really feel that threatened—by whom, exactly—that they had to annihilate every shred of evidence that Zidić even existed? I just don't get it. 🤷

If there was actual harassment, that could have been handled with warnings or bans. But then again, there were moments where mods were suggesting people take pills, or stories about someone fleeing a hospital after being hit by a chunk of ice...
Apparently, that's perfectly fine since a mod wrote it and they're essentially untouchable. 🤷

Usually, at this hour—while I’m sipping my coffee and getting ready for work—I check my subscriptions, read the latest gossip on the neighborhood forums, and sit down in Zidić to light a cigarette. Now, I can’t even do that, thanks to someone’s decision that Zidić is somehow "toxic tissue" for Reddit.

I honestly don't know what kind of threat a group of ten women who have been here for over thirty years could possibly pose—sorry, Matthew Anderson4, no hugs today :not_sure:

I agree—in the early days of the site, there were issues because some users from the TV network felt annoyed by us chatting (mind the chat topic). That whole situation ended poorly with direct bans (myself included). The bans were lifted after two hours, and we learned our lesson. Honestly, I still don't think those bans were justified. The chat topic is for chatting; we overstepped out of pure revolt, because when you feel like someone is being unfair, you start fighting back. The moderator made that call because she received reports about us in her chat, but by the end of that season, everything had settled down. She moderated, we chatted, and everyone was happy.

Once the season wrapped up, Mirror reached out and explained that the off-topic section was closing and we needed to find somewhere else under the sun. 😍
And, at his suggestion, Zidić opened up in the Off section—right where the old OUT crew, a few games, and us used to hang out.
There was never any trouble with anyone in the Off section. 🤷
The OUT crew would drop by, and people from other topics would wander over to the Off area too. As far as I recall, nobody ever got a warning or heaven forbid a ban on Zidić just for posting there. 🤷

In the meantime, there was a spat between Missy and DD that nobody else involved themselves in. Missy shared her opinion on a thread DD started, and frankly, I think it was strictly between the two of them.
Then there was that ugly verbal attack by one of the recreation moderators, which prompted me to respond in a thread on the community board. I wrote three posts in recreation, and the first one was deleted immediately 🤷 (if I remember correctly, it was just: "good evening, everyone").

If that counts as trolling, then please, give me a permanent ban—because that is how I "troll" every single thread I visit. 🙂

I agree that on Zidić, we talked about our lives and things happening on the site. But we didn't do anything differently than any other user on any other part of this site (even in the "Dinner for Five" thread next door, the moderators post about other sections of the forum 🤷).
If we were doing something wrong, then the moderators should be the ones sanctioning it with warnings, cards, bans, or deleting posts—not deleting entire threads! If there were reactions to problems someone had elsewhere on the site, it happened through normal chatting, not by calling people out for breaking rules. If some mods have ego issues and get hurt when someone leaves a comment, that’s their problem (deal with it). If that behavior is punishable on Reddit, then those specific instances (which are incredibly rare among the 25,000 deleted posts) should have seen the individual posts deleted and the author sanctioned—not the whole topic nuked.

Am I revolted? Yes. Am I disappointed? Absolutely. Will I open clone accounts or act out? I never have, and I won't start now. But if I demand an actual, reasoned explanation as to why a group of ten women represents a "danger" to Reddit just by sitting in Zidić and venting about work, life, or obsessing over rose emojis and luxury brands, then I am going to demand it!

You have done a massive injustice by sanctioning users who actually follow the Reddit rules—I believe my punishment was completely unwarranted.

If being a user for three years without a single issue—while simultaneously hanging out on Zidić—is enough to label me a "troublemaker," then fine: go ahead and penalize me for "hanging out on Zidić." Give me a permanent ban for causing trouble on Reddit just by "hanging out on Zidić."😢

Regarding these distributed bans—unfortunately, my opinion clearly doesn't matter. You all know perfectly well they are unfair; I shouldn't have to be the one—or anyone else—to tell you that🤷. A permanent ban for a user whose ban was lifted just last month, despite her behaving perfectly. A permanent ban for a user accompanied by the baseless claim that she's a clone of the first one🤣. Then there's the two 500-point penalties for Parach and Vili. I don't see any clones, spam, or trolling being opened here🤷. oblica is trying to prove she isn't a clone of Miseducat, while Missy and Parach opened appeal threads—Vili didn't even get that chance. Where are those actual "troublemakers" who open clone accounts, cause chaos, and troll the entire site???????:none to be found:

The decision to delete topics—essentially creating a breeding ground for chaos and danger for Reddit—is appalling. Furthermore, labeling me as a "troublesome user" is even worse.

I am formally requesting an explanation and the restoration of the topic—which, in the end, I was the one who opened myself.

I’ve never actually posted on Reddit before, and if I’m being totally honest, I haven't the slightest clue why all this drama started in the first place. Plus, I’ve never even had a run-in with any of the moderators (honestly, I don't even know who 🙈 are). But despite all that, I decided to jump in with the group looking for some actual answers, because the whole situation just feels incredibly undemocratic to me 👎

deleting this whole thread... but why?
looking back at these few posts, I haven't quite been able to wrap my head around why you esteemed moderators decided on such radical measures 😕
and I'm even more confused about why two female users ended up getting permanent bans :confused :confused

I actually first signed up for Reddit way back in the fall of ninety-seven... back in the days of Bulletin Boards..
I suppose I should mention that it was Zidić's crew who originally got me hooked on both BBS and Reddit?
and every single day (seriously, every single day) they made my virtual life a little brighter... which, in turn, made my real life better too..

I used to post on Zidić.. so I guess that makes me guilty here too (my first penalty in two and a half years)
and I had always been welcomed there like one of their own..

anyone who actually followed Zidić would realize that every single person there is a unique individual... and that Missy could never be oblica (Missy would never forget where she parked her car ☕)

there was this group of ten women (and a few guys) ... almost all over thirty (you know how it is) just chatting about the weather, politics, winter tires in the South, old movies, smoking (cigarettes and... ), bundt cakes ( 😍)... (well, okay, and some chat about recreation) .. and all of that happened on the OFF-topic section... it's just so hard for me to believe that all of that bothers the forum leadership so much..it's truly incomprehensible..
if the sanctions were less extreme... maybe (maybe) it might have even been funny...
but there's nothing funny about this...
just sadness..
and emptiness...
pure misery..
