So, here’s the deal: I’ve completely lost my voice. It’s that annoying hoarseness that usually hits right after a nasty cold, probably because I was talking way too much and overdid it. Does anyone know a quick fix for this? I’m in a bit of a bind because I have to be sounding 100% by Monday, and honestly, I just don't have the luxury of sitting around in silence waiting for it to clear up on its own 😢

So, here’s the deal... I’ve been dealing with this constant hoarseness for two years now. Like, seriously—my voice just sounds raspy all the time. Growing up, I always had this really high-pitched voice; I was basically in every choir you could imagine, performing at all sorts of events, but now? I can barely hit a single high note. It’s almost impossible to sing anything properly anymore. All my life, people told me I had this bright, high voice, but now I just sound croaky, and honestly, it’s driving me absolutely insane. I’ve gone to see specialists, but they can't find a damn thing wrong. They sent me home with breathing treatments and some anti-inflammatory pills, but—surprise, surprise—none of it actually fixed my voice. So, I’m sitting here wondering... is it possible my vocal cords are just shot, or maybe it's a thyroid issue? If anyone has dealt with something similar, I’d love to hear how you handled it and what actually worked. Anyway, I’m heading back to the doctor tomorrow—again—but this time, I am demanding every single test available. Thanks in advance.

So, I’ve got a gig with my band this Saturday—only two days away—and my voice is absolutely shot. It all started yesterday during rehearsal; I felt a few early warning signs, but I was stupid enough to push through and didn't take care of myself. By the time we finished, I was hoarse, and today? Today is a disaster. I can barely even talk. Does anyone have any advice? Seriously, anything at all to get me back on track by Saturday. I’ve been taking some effervescent calcium tablets, hoping that might do something, but I'm not holding my breath. Thanks.

This might sound a little ridiculous to some of you—and I get it—but my ENT actually suggested whistling as a way to deal with hoarseness a few years back... and honestly? It actually works. Sure, you might look like a total weirdo whistling away to yourself all day long, but it really does help soothe a raspy throat 🙂

I’ve been dealing with this one issue for what feels like two—maybe even three—long years now. It’s honestly getting exhausting. I used to have a perfectly normal voice—not deep enough to be a radio announcer, sure, but solid. Now? I am constantly hoarse. I’m only 20 years old. I don't smoke, I don't drink, and I’m pretty much an active, athletic guy—though, looking back, I can't tell if that's actually making things worse or if it’s just irrelevant. But the reality is that half the time, I sound like some sickly 90-year-old grandfather. It's embarrassing. People are constantly asking me if I'm coming down with a cold, or worse, they assume I’m a smoker—which is infuriating because I've never touched a cigarette in my life. To make matters worse, I’ve got these breathing issues—it feels like one nostril is always blocked, switching sides throughout the day—and I’m constantly having to clear my throat. I’m seriously considering finally biting the bullet and seeing a doctor, but before I do, has anyone else here dealt with anything similar? If you have, did you actually find a solution that worked?

How often has this hoarseness been happening over the last two years? Personally, I deal with some mild raspiness in the mornings—it clears up pretty quickly once my vocal cords "warm up" after a bit of food or a drink—but my job requires me to be talking constantly..

If you aren't experiencing that specific pattern (which doesn't seem to be the case here), and assuming there isn't an underlying illness involved, it would be wise to schedule an exam with an ENT specialist..

As a first step, try incorporating more honey into your diet and increasing your intake of calcium, which directly aids with hoarseness—that’s just my suggestion..

You can pick some up at a local CVS for about $20 for a 10-count pack, but they really do help when dealing with voice issues or hoarseness.

First, go hit up an ENT to rule out anything else going on, then get your voice checked out by a specialist

Honestly, I’ve been without my voice for four days now—it’s just completely gone. I have tried everything from throat lozenges and calcium supplements to honey, herbal teas, salt water rinses, and even black radish... but nothing seems to work. My throat doesn't actually hurt; it's just that the sound won't come out. I don't smoke, and I usually stick to natural juices and tea, so what could this even be?

Please help! This is the first time in my life I've ever dealt with anything like this.
