I was wondering if anyone could weigh in here—is this monitor actually worth the investment?

or maybe something like this:

$450Hey, does this model really justify the price tag? My main focus is going to be gaming and watching movies—so I want something that looks good. Also, I’ve been scratching my head over screen sizes—is there a noticeable difference between a 21.5" and a 22" display?
And what on earth does this mean: "Connections 15 pin D-SUB Plug & Play DDC 2B" ????

If any of you have used these specific monitors before, I'd love to hear about your experience!

So, I’ve been poking around these monitors too, and from what everyone else seems to be saying, they look pretty solid. Honestly, though—just hang tight until someone who actually owns one reaches out so you can get the real deal directly from a user. By the way, that first link just lands you on the Best Buy homepage. As for the second one, you might want to check out some other retailers to see if you can snag a better price—maybe try something like: http://www.nabava.net/trazilica.php?...=Pretra%C5%BEi

It looks like I’ve run into a bit of a snag—that link isn't working for some reason! :X
Anyway, here is what I was trying to share:

21.5'' LCD SAMSUNG SM P2250N
--- 2ms, 300cd/m2, 50000:1, VGA, black
Price:$450

Hopefully, the link behaves itself this time! 🙂

I guess the LG is probably your better bet here. And just a heads-up for everyone else—if you're looking at prices on Best Buy, keep in mind those are just baseline figures before tax is added.

So, if you could break it down for me—what exactly makes the LG the better choice here?
Thanks in advance!

I mean, if you look at the contrast ratios, it’s pretty obvious the LG and Samsung matrices are identical.
I don't know exactly who's sourcing from whom, but the LG is probably about 20% cheaper than the Samsung.

Personally, I’d much rather grab a Philips in this size, but those things cost an absolute fortune.

That’s a fair point. Honestly, I can't really speak to LG since my experience with them has been... let's just say less than ideal :S
I’ll have to see how things play out tomorrow once I head out to pick up the 🙂
If anyone else has some extra advice or tips, please feel free to share!

I’m in the exact same boat—looking for a new monitor and eyeing the 22" models. Honestly, that 21.5" label you're seeing? It’s nothing more than a marketing gimmick. Back in the day, monitors used the 16:10 aspect ratio, but since everything shifted to the 16:9 standard, we lost that little bit of extra screen real estate. To keep customers from getting confused or feeling cheated by buying what looks like a "smaller" screen, they just kept labeling them as 22". As for the D-Sub, that's just VGA for those keeping track. One thing both those monitors lack, though, is a DVI port; they're stuck with just VGA. Personally, I'm leaning toward the LG w2261v, which is $500. I actually think you might find it at Best Buy for a better price, maybe around $135. It features a 2ms response time and gives you VGA, DVI, and HDMI options. Why not do a quick search online and give it some thought? To me, it seems like the much smarter move...

If you're really set on getting an LG, I guess you might as well just go for solution version 2343 with those clean 23" models instead of sticking with these. Everything else is pretty much identical, except this one has a slightly larger screen, which I suppose makes a bit of a difference when you're actually using it.

So, I was supposed to head out to Chicago today to pick up a monitor, but things didn't exactly go according to plan—life happens! In the end, I ended up asking my brother to grab it instead (keep in mind, his tech knowledge is basically zero when it comes to computers)
. I specifically told him to look for the Samsung 21,5 SM P2250N -$450
. You wouldn't believe it—he comes back, and all he's carrying is this tiny little box XD
. Man, was I caught off guard when I saw what he actually brought home: a Samsung SM2033 HD 20" -$600 🙂
. Honestly? This monitor is way better than I expected 😁—it’s got an HD TV tuner and remote control functionality, which makes it absolutely perfect.
I'm particularly loving the menu system and how easy it is to navigate with the remote. It’s a bit smaller than what I originally had in mind, but honestly, it's perfect for my setup 😉
.
Anyway, check it out here:

Well, I guess that’s not a bad deal. He basically grabbed a monitor and a digital TV all at once, so you might as well say he got a two-in-one setup for practically nothing.

Well, for the time being, I'm pretty happy with how this monitor is performing—fingers crossed it stays that way! 🙂

Hey everyone, could someone let me know if I can connect this cable directly from my graphics card (an HD3870) to my monitor? Also—and this is the big question—would I actually see a better picture this way? Or am I better off just running a standard DVI connection from the PC to the screen?

Thanks in advance!
