I’m stuck in a seriously messed up situation right now. I just took a drug test, and it came back positive for both cocaine and amphetamines. I actually demanded a blood test because I was 100% certain the results would be clean—I don't even touch that stuff. But after waiting eight days, the blood work came back positive too. 😲
What the hell am I supposed to do? Who can I even complain to, and how on earth do I prove I didn't do anything wrong? 🙄

If I’m following you correctly, you’ve actually gone through the testing process twice now?
Assuming there were two separate tests and we can rule out any kind of tampering, then you definitely consumed something that triggers a positive result. Are you currently taking any prescription medications, or perhaps using any specific supplements or dietary boosters?
It might be worth thinking back on your recent whereabouts and daily activities—is there any chance you ingested something without even realizing it?

So, I got pulled over by the cops, took the test, and it came back positive. Obviously, I demanded a blood test because I know for a fact I haven't touched any of that stuff lately. Sure, we smoked weed when I was a kid, but that was ages ago. I don't take any meds, and honestly, my life is pretty damn boring. I don't go out, I don't drink—I just hang out at the same local diner where everyone knows my face. These days, I’m strictly drinking coffee or a Pepsi there, and I eat all my meals at home. My only vice is cigarettes. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary, so I have zero clue how this could even happen. I’m in total shock, and my family is reeling too. To be honest, I’m not even sure if they believe me right now; looking at this from their perspective, I wouldn't believe me either.

Did you happen to stop by the dentist recently? Or maybe somewhere similar?

Nah, I haven't been anywhere and I haven't done anything out of the ordinary. I’ve already run through every single possibility in my head, and honestly, I've spent the last three days obsessively overthinking every little thing, but I'm getting absolutely nowhere. Nothing I can come up with even remotely fits the situation. Is there actually any way to prove I'm innocent here?

I don't know about that... I mean, if you had actually gone to a doctor and gotten some medical proof, maybe things would be different. Sorry, but I just don't see how anyone is going to take your word for it without documentation! It’s almost as if someone went and tampered with something in your Pepsi (or maybe it was something in your food)

Lmao, I went through something similar a few years back. The local cops treated me like some hardcore dealer just because I had some Panacea cough syrup. Obviously, the blood test cleared everything up since I didn't get charged with anything, but they never even bothered to apologize.

Funny enough:

Good luck!

Are you absolutely certain you didn't end up taking one of those medications listed in that link?!

Yeah, I'm positive. Honestly, I don't even know what else to make of it anymore. 🤷

I really don't know... Is it possible someone actually slipped something into your drink?

Just search Google for "false positive drug test." Or you can head over to www.mayoclinic.org.
These things happen more often than you'd think—and that link Benjamin Johnson92 shared is actually a great resource. I honestly don't even know how to explain it to people! I went through something similar myself; I used to use drugs, but I’ve been clean for a long time now, and a massive caffeine binge actually triggered a false positive. It wasn't an issue with the police, just my parents—so I showed them some info I found online, and now they finally believe me.

Maybe you’re just riding a high from some poppy seed muffin like Ellen from Seinfeld, but seriously, if you aren't on any prescription meds, are you absolutely certain you haven't been messing with herbal supplements or anything like that? You really need to take a hard look at everything you're putting in your body, and honestly, even pay attention to what you're rubbing on your skin, like an Advil topical gel or whatever.

Those urine tests can be unreliable, but bloodwork doesn't lie. Mass spectrometry is incredibly precise. Did you realize that going in, or was it news to you? Unless there was some massive mix-up at the lab—which I find hard to believe—this whole thing feels off. It just doesn't make sense how you could test positive for both without having felt a single symptom beforehand. 🤷

Megan Davis62 said:Look, urine tests can definitely give you a false positive... but bloodwork? That’s much harder to argue with. Mass spectrometry doesn't just make mistakes like that. Either he had it in his system—did he realize that or not?—or there was some massive error at the lab, though I really doubt they messed up that badly. Honestly, the whole thing feels off to me. How can someone test positive for both if they didn't feel any effects beforehand? 🤷

Exactly... that's what I don't get! Though, I suppose blood tests can sometimes flag certain substances because of how medications interact with them. It just goes to show you have to be careful with what you take. Still, I can't wrap my head around how this happened to him. He wasn't on any meds, he hadn't been to the dentist, and he hasn't seen an ENT lately—and you know how some nasal procedures involve trace amounts of cocaine, though I'm not sure about the exact concentration—yet he comes back positive for drugs!🤷 Seriously

Is it actually possible for some kind of glandular dysfunction to mess with hormone levels and cause this kind of fallout?
I’m talking about things like cortisol issues stemming from the adrenal glands, or maybe something involving the pituitary gland or similar stuff?

By the way, have you been using any nasal sprays or drops lately?

Megan Davis62 said:Look, a urine screen might give you some false positives here and there, but bloodwork? That’s a different story entirely. Mass spectrometry is incredibly precise—it doesn't just make mistakes out of thin air. Either the substance was actually in your system, whether you felt its effects or not, or someone at the lab completely botched the paperwork, which seems unlikely. It all feels a bit surreal to me, honestly; I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around how you could test positive on both types of tests without having experienced a single symptom beforehand. 🤷

I suppose mass spectrometry itself is nearly infallible, but we have to consider the human element—the person interpreting those numbers can certainly misread the situation. Still, when you have two fundamentally different testing methods pointing toward the exact same conclusion, it becomes a pretty heavy indicator that something is up, unless they managed to mess up both procedures simultaneously, which feels like a stretch. At this point, if I were in your shoes, I'd be making quite a fuss about it, voicing my frustrations, and demanding a comprehensive, top-tier re-analysis.

Nah, honestly, none of that stuff applies to me. I’m not on any meds, I don't have any diagnosed issues (as far as I know), and I haven't touched any herbal supplements or fancy creams either. I've already gone down those rabbit holes.

I actually use half the stuff mentioned in that link quite regularly. I take a B-vitamin capsule every single day, and honestly, whenever I'm out grabbing coffee, I usually stick to a Schweppes bitter lemon. I wouldn't mind if they pulled me over next time. 😲
