Alright, you wonderful commoners of the internet,

By way of the "Laylay" situation—and with the admin’s blessing—I am officially launching this thread
where you can dump all those hypocritical moderator posts right here.

It’s like trying to clean a fish from the tail up, even though we all know the "belly"—the mod side of things—is usually where the real stench is coming from.

Until now, we’ve mostly just been playing defense whenever someone gets slapped with a penalty, whether it was fair or totally bogus.
But let me tell you, it is beyond infuriating when a moderator drops a comment that would get us,
the regular users, instantly banned or kicked off the board, yet they walk away scot-free.

Consider this a little pilot program intended to teach our dear moderators
a bit about basic civility. And don't go digging up ancient history from ten years ago; we are starting fresh today.👍

To wrap it up and reiterate: paste those moderator posts that would have gotten us,
the everyday users, penalized in a heartbeat.👍

Go ahead and complain all you want—honestly, I’m right there with you. I’ve been partially banned from Meta by some ballerina over at IBM myself. I tried to file an appeal, really gave it my best shot 🙂, but when I started demanding actual evidence to back up their decision, they hit me with nothing. It’s just pathetic, really... it feels like we're stuck dealing with an utterly incompetent management team

Interesting topic, but I doubt it'll gain much traction for one simple reason: they usually just delete their posts once they realize they've gone too far.

Nowadays, we just call that 'having style.'😁

true😁

I never thought I'd be the one to say it, but... I really miss my cookies. And my mirror. 😢

The thing is, a moderator can be disciplined by a supermoderator or an admin. Those higher-ups can see everything that gets deleted, so you don't have to worry about anyone successfully covering their tracks.😉

But why does the whole point necessarily revolve around punishment? Maybe we should consider the possibility that the average user isn't actually thirsty for moderator blood, but rather just wants the chance to publicly expose certain things to people outside of a specific subforum?

BTW—and this is something you just can't convey through quotes: it’s honestly a shame that a certain faction of the moderation team—to use a football referee analogy—has absolutely "no feel for the game." They just go around deleting everything that isn't strictly "on script," even if the content is genuinely interesting, funny, or just... well, something. It feels like they're just killing the vibe, if you know what I mean.

So? What about it? ☕

Nobody is out here screaming, "Punish the moderators, damn all the American and English language laws to hell, down with the proletariat!!!"—is it really that impossible to grasp that someone might just want to point out that certain moderator posts are going unpunished?

Go ahead, stir the pot. I guess you think you’re being clever.

Honestly, you’re such a mess. You’ve gone on several little rants, being aggressive and throwing insults left and right. I mean, you totally deserved a ban, but I guess your buddies just wiped your posts and called it a day. So now everything is fine. Whatever.

Look, it’s not that big of a deal. We all mess up sometimes, I guess. Just don't go making a mountain out of a molehill.

Do I need to spell it out for you, or do you seriously need some remedial classes?

Nicholas King said:So what? ☕

Nobody is out here screaming, "Punish the moderators! Down with the entire American establishment!"—so why is it such an issue to simply point out that some moderator posts aren't being held to the rules?

It isn't impossible... and I'm not saying it can't happen. If someone wants to dump posts here, they can. But wouldn't it be better if there was actually some purpose behind it?

silvergardener93 said:Do you actually get it, or do you need me to explain it like you're five?!!??

No, I don't get it. I think I might need a little extra help. Why don't we start from the beginning, back when we first met?

Nobody is out there screaming, "Let's punish the mods, damn everything about America and the English language!" It’s just not happening. So why is it treated like an impossibility to simply point out that some unpunished moderator posts are clearly breaking the rules?

Is it really necessary to show?
Of course they exist. It’s just like those user posts that get flagged but never actually face any consequences.

placidbison20 said:Is it even necessary to show them?

"With the blessing of the admin"—well, that implies someone "higher up" actually agrees that it's necessary.

Of course they exist, just like there are user posts that deserve punishment.

Where on earth did you get the idea that it's "obvious" that moderator posts can be punishable???

Since moderators aren't selected via some random Saturday night lottery—they're presumably chosen based on actual criteria—I just cannot wrap my head around the logic of equating what we expect from a moderator with what we expect from an average user. It is quite interesting to me that you are already the second moderator trying to steer the conversation toward whether or not things should be punished, whereas—in my opinion—it is far more important to argue that a moderator simply shouldn't be writing such things in the first place.

Could you please explain this to me?
So, we aren't allowed to take a side for punishment or against it...
What kind of stance are moderators supposed to take according to you?

Laura Evans3 said:So what kind of stance should the mods take then, in your opinion?

Look, if you ask me, the admins need to step up and make it clear that even the moderators—who are acting just as offended and dramatic as this one user whose username is currently being grayed out—should be held accountable. I mean, seriously, the guy already got a strike, yet his post is still sitting there right in front of us!

Honestly, if the mods realize they’re handing out bans to regular users for stuff they’re totally letting slide for themselves, they should just step down and ban their own asses already.

Tyler Ross86 said:I honestly think the admins should step up and take a stand regarding moderators who act offended. They should be held to the same standard as this user above—whose username is now grayed out—even though he was issued a warning and his post is still visible!

Google, that warning didn't actually cause the user's ban...

Looking at this thread, and especially the opening post, it seems like the administration has already made their position pretty clear... wouldn't you say?

Laura Evans3 said:Google, that one specific card wasn't what got the user banned in the first place...

But looking at this thread... and even just the intro post, it’s pretty obvious the admins have picked a side, right?

So why the ban?
What "side" did the admins take? From where I’m sitting, the only "stance" they’ve shown is that moderators are untouchable—they can say whatever they want without consequences—while any regular user gets slapped with an instant ban.

Case in point: look at how Desiree locked this whole thing down alongside Lily, dropping a comment that was honestly hilarious in its audacity. But hey, it perfectly sums up the vibe here, because it basically translates to: "Poor little regular users, we feel so bad for you... but we mods are all buddies here, and we're allowed to laugh in your faces while you try to make a point."

I don't get the need for the fake politeness or the masks—just say it like it is. Things are what they are. And I mean that. "If you really want things to change, go ahead and buy out Reddit entirely so you can rewrite the rules, because you aren't getting any other way to fix this mess."
