What's the deal with the HD5750? $227 That’s the bare minimum you can grab if you want to handle some decent gaming without blowing your entire budget. If you're looking to save a few extra bucks, an HD5670 is basically the floor. Anything less and you're just wasting your money.
Neither of those graphics cards draws that much power, so I'm confident your PSU can handle either one. It really comes down to what you want to spend. But honestly, for that processor, you should probably cap it at something like an HD5750 or an HD5770 if you want a newer card with DX11 support. Anything higher than that is just overkill; the GPU will completely outclass your CPU, so there's zero point in dropping hundreds of dollars on a better card.
Also, if you're sitting on 2 GB of RAM, just add another 2 GB. It’s a necessity, especially if you're running Windows 7.

Look, buying used obviously comes with risks. But if you verify the receipt, check the purchase date, confirm the remaining warranty, and make sure the card actually works? It’s worth considering. Something like an HD4870 or 4850 wouldn't be a bad move.

Either way, you're going to feel a difference moving to any of those cards listed above—unless you're looking at the Sapphire HD 5670, but then again, you did mention you actually want to game. 🙂

One more thing 😛for example with my card: I can play ASSASSIN CRED 2 and 3 just fine on medium settings, and Dead Space 2 on max, yet some sites say my card can't run certain games at all. THAT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME AT ALL.🤷

Just read a review of that gt240 and you'll see the card is basically bottom-of-the-barrel.

Why would you waste money on it $207 when I already showed you the HD5750 for slightly more, and it performs better in games.

for $207 you've got an HD5750 which is better, but for $23 you're looking at a GTS 450 that absolutely crushes the Asus Nvidia gt 240... though in that same ballpark, there's the HD5750...

And look, the GTX 5** series just dropped, so if you're dead set on NVIDIA, just grab an NVIDIA GTX 560...you can find them on $567 too.

Also, get the 2GB HD6950 because you can flash that version into an HD6970, which makes it a solid pick

The HD6870 isn't worth it at that price point. If it's sitting at $200, why wouldn't you just grab an NVIDIA GTX 560 instead? It's basically a tier above for the exact same money...

So, I’m currently rocking a GeForce 8600GT, and I just tried firing up Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, but man, this thing is total junk. It's chugging along at maybe three-quarters of max settings before it starts dying on me =) And honestly, I really want to actually enjoy the game, not fight it. Plus, this card is already five years old... I feel like I'm gonna need something beefier more often lately, so I'm thinking it might finally be time for an upgrade.
