So, I play handball, and since last Friday, I’ve been dealing with this killer pain in my muscle—specifically that arch right under my armpit. I can't even describe it properly, just this weird muscular arc... my buddy tells me it's either the lats or some kind of muscle group thing. Here's a photo: http://yfrog.com/2ddadaj Anyway, I've tried pretty much everything. I scaled back my training sessions and I've been popping Advil 300mg every single day, but nothing is working... It's not like I can't move my arm normally or anything, I can lift it fine, but the second I go into that specific throwing motion used in handball, this sharp, sudden pain hits me out of nowhere. It feels like a permanent inflammation or something. Does anyone know any home remedies or kitchen hacks to dull this down? I can't train properly like this. If anyone here has dealt with this exact same crap, please help a guy out. 😢

Based on where you're feeling it, you’re likely looking at either the latissimus dorsi or maybe the supraspinatus. If you’ve actually managed to strain them, honestly, just take it easy. Use a heating pad or something similar to soothe the area, rub on some Voltaren, and for heaven's sake, just rest. That said, you really ought to go see an orthopedist just to be safe. It’s probably nothing, but there's always that slim chance of a tendon tear or a serious strain, and an ultrasound is the only way to know for sure if things are actually torn up inside.

I looked up what the latissimus dorsi actually is—it's more toward the back, but my pain is on the complete opposite side, like way up near my chest.
