Borat is the best, Bruno is pretty good, and Ali G is alright.

That show of his was actually pretty hilarious and blew up big time.

These feature films are pretty mediocre at best. His real peak was definitely those half-hour episodes back when he was still flying under the radar, even over in the USA.

Borat! Definitely...

For me, nothing beats those interviews Sacha Baron Cohen did while playing Borat.

I couldn't agree more! Personally, I thought the Ali G show was absolutely brilliant, but the movie itself felt like a total miss. Now, Borat was an incredible character, but the film was just a bit "too much" for my taste—it wasn't really my thing. As for Bruna, I probably won't even bother watching it.

I caught Bruno Mars' movie yesterday, and I guess you could say it's a bit of a mess 😂 it doesn't really hold a candle to Borat, though there are some decent moments here and there. It's pretty predictable, sure, but since they used those same tropes so effectively in Borat, this one follows a similar pattern, even if it feels slightly different in execution.

I was honestly so hyped for Borat, and I really went in hoping for that same magic with Bruno Mars, but man, was I let down... I didn't get a single laugh out of any of the scenes, well, okay, maybe just during that final song when it's Bono and Bruno Mars performing together, but other than that, nothing really hit me.
It also feels like Ali G and Bruno Mars have pretty similar vibes in how they talk, which is a huge contrast to how totally one-of-a-kind Borat is.

Yeah, I totally agree with that! Especially during that scene at Bruno Mars' house toward the end, where he’s playing that straight guy Dave and trying so hard to hide his gay slang, but he just ends up sounding exactly like Ali G.

I find it difficult to view this through the lens of cinema. Personally, I would be more inclined to discuss it as a manifestation of an alter ego.
All three work perfectly well as episodic pieces. And I’m not just talking about Ali G here. If you look at the DVD release of Borat, there are some incredibly good scenes that didn't make the final cut. One of them is just massive—I think it runs for about 15 minutes—where Borat is in a supermarket trying to drive a clerk absolutely insane by walking down an endless aisle of refrigerators, asking the exact same question over and over again: "Is this butter?" As a shorter clip, the scene wouldn't even work. The whole tension relies on the anticipation of when that clerk is finally going to explode. Even before Bruno Mars, I used to find clips online of deleted footage. Honestly, those "cut" scenes don't lose any of their impact.

He was the one who kickstarted this entire brand of "cinematic" activism. It all traces back to him—it’s practically in his DNA. 😁 Both Borat and Bruno Mars came to be.
Borat is an absolute phenomenon. Honestly, enough already—since we’re on the subject of cinema, it really is the most complete package out there.
3. They had brunch, which was a bit sluggish, though there were way more actual actors involved and plenty of scene blocking being worked out.

I don't think you guys actually "get" Bruno Mars. This film isn't some slapstick comedy; it’s a biting critique of modern society, democracy, gender equality, religion, sexual orientation, and capitalism. As such, it’s not meant to be funny. It mocks consumerism and targets people like yourselves who walked in expecting a lighthearted romp where he just acts like a fool, much like he did in Borat. By the end of the movie, you should be moved to tears by the realization of the world we live in and the Neanderthals we're surrounded by.

I think Bruno Mars is brilliant because Sacha Baron Cohen uses those cheap little pranks and low-budget stunts to expose nothing but pure hypocrisy, stupidity, and shallow vanity.
