Itchy eyes, tearing, sneezing, and swelling under my left eye—what could it be?

For about the last 10 days, my eyes have been watering constantly. I’ve also been sneezing in bursts of four or five at a time, maybe ten times a day. On top of that, my eyes—especially underneath them—have been feeling really itchy for the past week or so.
The biggest issue is this slight swelling that popped up under my left eye the day before yesterday. Yesterday, it actually doubled in size, so I skipped work and went straight to my doctor. He referred me to a specialist, who ended up prescribing me Colgate eye drops, Colgate ointment, and some Claritin. Honestly, it felt like the specialist wasn't entirely sure what was going on either; he just assumed it's an allergy that should clear up with this treatment. I took a pill yesterday (just one a day), used the drops, and applied the ointment (three times a day), but I don't see any improvement this morning. If anything, the swelling seems a bit worse. I can't help but wonder why, if it really is an allergy, he didn't send me for any testing to figure out exactly what I'm reacting to? He even asked if I’d been bitten by something, though as far as I know, I haven't. I was out in the wind a little bit lately, but I doubt that would cause just one eye to swell up like this. My doctor suggested it might be a bug bite, but I don't have any bugs around here, and if I did, I'm pretty sure I'd notice a bite.

If anyone has any advice or has dealt with something similar, please jump in and let me know.

I mean, they literally told you it’s an allergy, right? Especially if your eye was already itching and then just went into full-on swelling mode.
You should probably go see a doctor and ask for something else, because honestly, those standard antihistamines don't work the same way for everyone.
With my kids, their eyelids would swell up all the time, and my daughter actually had her lip swell up once—it was pretty intense and didn't just go away easily.
That’s kind of why people usually start taking those allergy meds preemptively, before the reaction hits or right when pollen season starts kicking off for whatever you're sensitive to.

Everything seems to be fine now, I guess. The swelling is almost completely gone. It looks like the treatment actually worked. I also helped things along a bit with some cold compresses, and now everything is pretty much back to normal

Those are textbook allergy symptoms—an idiot would have told you to go get some testing done just to figure out what you're actually reacting to. It’s likely just seasonal pollen or something.

At this time of year, it’s most likely just weeds—probably ragweed.

I’m dealing with the exact same thing... I’d upload a photo if I could actually find where the files are stored on this site, but honestly, I just don't know what happened to me back in the fall. Now it's spring and the whole cycle is starting all over again—just with slightly less swelling this time.

It’s just my left eye. It itches constantly, and I’m at a loss for what to do because the itch feels like it’s deep inside.

I went to see my primary care doctor since getting an appointment with an ophthalmologist around here is basically impossible—never happens.

She just gave me some Claritin and a Maxim ointment or something similar.

And look, it worked for a bit—but clearly, it was just a temporary fix...

So now I’m stuck wondering: do I go back for more of the same just to endure it, or should I push to get referred for those allergy tests? Before last fall, I didn't have any allergies to speak of. I wear contact lenses, and I pretty much stick to the same solution I've always used.

I have absolutely no clue where this is coming from.🤷

Does anyone have any actual, sensible advice?
