Alright, HUGE thanks for the advice. I think I'm actually going to go that route. Hopefully the guys over at Best Buy will be cool with putting it all together in a case without a power supply included. If that's even an option. I noticed you went back and edited your post to clear some things up for me too 😁

I don't think that's even possible... besides, if you look at what the manager wrote, he’s available everywhere. Just try asking if you can pay for it here at the local branch, then have the guys from the headquarters just ship it over to the assembly tech under your name, assuming they'll even allow that... damn, just give it a shot..

Will a Corsair 430W handle a 5850 paired with an Intel Phenom on Gigabyte motherboard?

Yeah. No big deal... if you just don't have any love for a 520W unit... 😁

Will it hold up if both the GPU and CPU are overclocked? 😁

No worries...
If my old EVGA 400W unit managed to handle my overclocked Intel Core i7 along with two overclocked GeForce cards, plus some hard drives and a mountain of fans...
then I don't think you'll have any issues. 👍

Look, let's not get carried away here... 😁 if everyone just bought that power supply, there wouldn't even be a point in upgrading to a stronger one...

Is this power supply going to be loud?

I'm not exaggerating....
ran it through FurMark and 3DMark without any issues 🙂

The only thing I didn't do was Prime or those other tests because I just didn't feel like it..
I just wanted to see if it actually works and boots up.. 🙂

Running Furmark and Prime95 simultaneously would probably push that power supply way too hard—I suspect it would hit the red zone pretty quickly. Still, considering how budget-friendly it is, it's actually performing quite well under pressure 🙂

The GPU and the CPU cooler are going to be much louder, and honestly, you might even hear the case fans.

Heh, good thing you didn't push it too hard—otherwise you'd be stuck buying a replacement from Best Buy😛

Not trying to start a whole new thread here, but my power supply is running insanely hot -.- I just cracked the side panel open... would it actually help if I let some warm air out?

It really all comes down to a few variables—which power supply you're running, how much mileage it already has on it, and just how hard you're pushing it under load...

If it's running fine, it's totally normal for it to get warm. As long as the fan is actually spinning, you've got nothing to worry about...

So this Generic PC I've had for nearly a year—it finally cooled down and is just blowing cold air now that I've opened the case... Honestly, I can never seem to scrape together enough for a decent power supply, there's always some something getting in the way... Looking at the specs, it puts out 8A on 12v1 and 14A on 12v2, plus 15A on the +3.3V and 20A on the +5V... which probably isn't exactly great news either http://www.rhw.hu/feltoltes/cikkszam/300XX.jpg

Hey guys....
So, here’s my experience with a recent power supply headache....
My case was basically turning into an oven.... My HDDs were hitting like 70 degrees...
Anyway, I headed down to Newegg (since they're the only decent shop around my way) and explained the mess to the guy there.... He tells me the airflow in my pathetic little case is nonexistent and recommends a bigger one. I figured, why not? While I was at it, I asked him to swap in a new PSU too, because my old one was buzzing like crazy (even though it felt brand new)... So, for about $10, he moves everything from the old case to the new one, installs two fans, and pops in a new power supply: 560W, LC POWER Silent Giant GREEN POWER LC6560GP3 V2.3, with a 140mm fan
CLICK...
So, I head home all happy and satisfied, put the rig together... hit the button, and nothing. Just the fans spinning and whirring while the system stays dead. No blue LEDs by the power button, nothing on the monitor. Nothing! I try again, and again, and again... just the sound of fans spinning. I thought maybe my outlet was busted, so I dragged an extension cord from another plug... then a third... then a fourth... still nothing. I even took the PC over to my neighbor's house... zilch. Just those damn fans spinning. I hauled everything back to Newegg and told them what happened. The guy grabs the PC, plugs it in, and—BAM—it works! The system boots right up. I was totally stunned. I go back home, set it all up, hit the button... and it's the same story. Fans spin, but the system won't boot at all. I'm losing my mind! In the middle of this mess, I bought a new surge protector at Walmart ($43 with built-in protection from Iskrina) ... I even called an electrician to come check my outlets (since the guy at Newegg thought that might be the issue). The next day (Sunday), I'm out picking up my wife from work when she calls me saying... the electrician stopped by and said the computer turned on for him, AND HE SAID MY NEW SURGE PROTECTOR IS TRASH... I'm sitting there thinking... how can it be trash? I tried plugging it straight into the wall and it didn't work! I even swapped the PSU cable... I honestly have no clue what the deal was. Was the power supply messing with me? Probably not the machine itself, since I tested twenty different outlets in my house and even tried the neighbor's...
The PC has been running fine since then. Haven't touched the power strips or anything since (I don't dare! :-)) BUT I STILL SUSPECT THE POWER SUPPLY... Like it's being too sensitive or something? Or maybe some freaking ghosts messed with everything, or it really is the PSU....
WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK????

Gremlins... 😱

Probably just some loose connection that settled into place while you were lugging the rig around...

Yeah... what good would it have done if he got it running on his desk, only for me to get back home and find out I STILL couldn't boot it up????

It’s not the power supply, because if it were, you wouldn't be able to get it running anywhere.

It was probably slapped together too quickly, and maybe a connector isn't seated quite right, or just didn't click in all the way—and then you end up with these massive headaches.
