What they did is basically on par with some horrific act of cruelty against a helpless child.😬 Okay, I'm exaggerating, but you get my point.

Does anyone have a reliable lead on where else I can pick up a Corsair CX 400W?
I’ve been hunting through different stores, but I'm coming up empty. Just a couple of days ago, Newegg had it listed, and I think Walmart did too, but they seem to be out of stock now.

Since it looks like a few other people are searching for this too, it would be great if someone could share where it's actually in stock.

I want to buy one, but I've been checking stores and coming up empty. A couple of days ago Newegg had it in their online stock, and Best Buy did too, but they haven't had it for a few days now..

It looks like other people are hunting for this too, so it would be helpful if someone could say where it's still available.

Maybe the old stock just vanished into thin air since the new series dropped...

That would have been my first thought too, but it’s a shame because I don't think the new series will be nearly as good as this one😬

I'd love to grab one—I've been checking various stores, but nothing's turning up. Just a day or two ago, Newegg had it online, and maybe Best Buy too, but my local shop has been out of stock for a few days now...

It seems like there are others looking for this too, so it would be helpful if we could share where it's actually available.

Well, from what I can see, it looks like it's still available at quite a few places right now. Newegg's site lists it as "in stock," which—if we're being honest—is usually about 99% accurate.

All of these guys still have it listed—at least online—though I can't say for sure if they actually have them sitting on the shelves right now.

Best Buy $103
Walmart $109
Best Buy $110
Micro Center $117
Office Depot $122

There are more options out there, but these tend to be the more budget-friendly ones.

Best Buy $103
MagazinRS $109
Vixus $110
Instar $117
H2 Shop $122

There are more out there, but these are among the cheaper options.

I appreciate the effort, but if the answer were that obvious, I wouldn't have bothered posting this two days ago, right? 😉 The reality was that everywhere I called, they were out of stock (this was back on October 21st), even though both Newegg and Best Buy—along with a few others—showed it as available online (some still show it today...).

Anyway, the issue is sorted! It turns out they had one in stock at the San Diego location, and they shipped it over to my local branch.👍

Hey there.
Look, I don't know much about power supplies, but from what I've read, they're actually pretty important.
I was wondering if this would work for:
Intel Core i3
4GB RAM
A GeForce GT240 1GB DDR5 or something similar, maybe slightly better or worse.
Would this fit:
Thermaltake EVGA, W0361RE, 450 W, active PFC, 120mm Fan cooling: 2000 RPM ± 10%, 1x 24-pin connector, 1x ATX12V, 4x SATA, 1x Floppy Drive, 2x PCIe, 5x Molex

I need something that won't break the bank but is decent enough, since I'm picking up a graphics card too.
Also, is the EVGA 450W quiet?

If only we had version 2.3, then we'd be talking..
But since it's stuck at 2.2, it’s kind of mediocre.. Sure, it hits at least 70% under full load, but there are definitely better options out there...

I’d personally go with this one.. I know it’s pricey, especially now that they don't carry that old CX400 anymore..

This is really the only cheaper alternative..

Let me know about that 430W Corsair SS-430GB, is it actually quiet?

It’s pretty standard stuff...
I mean, 23db? That’s basically silent...

Could you tell me what that Floppy Drive thing means?

Hey everyone. Finally finished putting this rig together—prices actually hit a decent spot for once. Now I’ve got a nagging question about the power supply. Since they stopped making that old Crossair CX400, which was a solid unit, it looks like this new series they're pushing isn't much to write home about. I need to figure out what's actually a good fit for my build. I'm aiming for something around $150.
CPU: Intel Phenom on Gigabyte motherboard
Motherboard: Gigabyte 870a-ud3
4 gigs of Kingmax RAM
Samsung 1TB HDD
Some random Samsung DVD burner
GeForce GTX 460 1GB
Thermaltake V3 case (though if anyone knows a better case for this price point, let me know. I've read some conflicting stuff online where people claim there are better options for the money, but nobody actually names them 😁)
I'm torn between these:
EVGA 400W, FSP400-60APN, Super Silent, 12cm
Corsair 430W, SS-430GB, S12, active PFC
Cooler Master Strider 500W, Essential ST50F-ES AC 90-264V, 47/63Hz

I was leaning towards the Cooler Master, and the first page of this thread says it's good, but then I stumbled onto some talk about how the plastic melts or something, making it super loud and causing vibrations and all that nonsense.
So, I'd love some input. I was ready to pull the trigger on everything, but then I ran into this "issue." Since I'm on a tight budget, I really want to make sure I'm spending my cash wisely. Thanks, everyone.

I was thinking about grabbing the Silverstone. The first page of this thread says it's good, but then I read something about some plastic melting inside it pretty quickly, making it super noisy and causing vibrations and stuff like that.

You probably read that from someone running dual HD 5870s and an Intel Core i7 overclocked to 4.5 GHz; maybe it runs a bit hot in those setups.☕

Out of these, the Silverstone is solid. For the same price, you get more wattage if you go with the Corsair, while the Fortron is definitely a lower tier. Also, I think the newer Corsair CX series isn't quite as high-quality as the older ones—it looks like they switched manufacturers if I read that right.😉

The Corsair Builder CX series is actually manufactured by Delta Electronics—it's essentially their entry-level power supply line. To put it simply, even though it carries the Corsair name, it doesn't share the same high-end pedigree you'd find in their more premium models 😉
If I were in your shoes, I'd just pick whichever one you prefer between Cooler Master and Corsair; honestly, you can't really go wrong with either of them 😉

If you're choosing between Cooler Master and Corsair, just pick whichever one you like more—you can't really go wrong with either 😉

And let me tell you an old rule of thumb: you can never go wrong with extra wattage. 😁

I think I’m gonna pull the trigger on that Cooler Master. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't total junk before committing. Thanks a ton 🙂

The guy sent me an email asking if they had any Cooler Master stock in, and they did—but now that I’m actually sending over my build specs, it’s suddenly out of stock. Great. -.- They don't have that Corsair 430W one either, and I'm pretty sure there isn't anything decent left around the $150 mark, right? (Newegg) I've already blown past my budget by $33, and if I stretch even further to grab that Corsair unit for $173, it looks like the MSI GTX 460 Hawk is going to be priced right out of the game. And that's just assuming I can even find a 460.
The dude at Newegg suggested a Corsair CX 500W as a better alternative to what I originally picked, but I really don't want that CX series. What should I do? 🙂

Don't bother with that power supply. Just grab one from Newegg instead.

You can just plug it in without any hassle...

It's got three +12V rails, each pumping out a massive 30A, totaling 492W. Honestly, you're unlikely to ever need more than that... 😁
