GTX 560 Ti 1GB
120GB SSD
Two 1TB hard drives

What would be the best power supply for this setup?

What kind of PSU would be best for this setup?

Or maybe this OCZ one

It’s got a 5-year warranty, a quiet fan, it's modular, and—get this—it's basically just a repackaged EVGA unit.

It’ll have plenty of juice for this build, and honestly, enough left over for some future upgrades too.

If you’re planning on overclocking, grab that 600W OCZ ModXStream Pro for $180

I was wondering if I could get some input on this... would an EVGA SuperNOVA be enough to power two VTX 69502b cards paired with an i5-2500K? Everything would just be running at stock speeds. Oh, and I've got an SSD plus two traditional hard drives in there too. :P

2x HD 6950 CF
2D ~135 W
DiRT3 ~440 W
Furmark ~480 W
Prime + Furmark: ~560 W

Later.

Best.

Hold on, only 135W for a 6950 CF in 2D? 😲

Yeah, that's what Walter Bennett32 got when he actually measured it...
And besides, what's the big deal with higher power draw in 2D?

I mean, I know, but that 6950 is a beast, especially in a CF setup... I honestly figured it would pull even more power than that.

I need a quick answer here! I’ve got this situation where I need to drop a power supply into a build running a Pentium, an ASUS card, and a single 160GB HDD. The problem is, the 12V rail on this PSU only puts out 5A. Now, look, the CPU and GPU aren't exactly power hogs, but that rail is capped at 60W total. If the processor pulls 35W max, and the graphics card probably takes another 35W, then you still have to account for the hard drive... Should I actually try this and see if it works? What’s the absolute worst-case scenario here? Are we talking about a literal meltdown/fire, or will the computer just refuse to boot? Right now, this exact power supply is sitting in a rig with some integrated graphics on an AM2 motherboard—the CPU is a mystery, honestly, but between that and the 160GB HDD, everything runs perfectly fine. (I'll dig around to find out which specific processor it is and get back to you.)

What's the worst-case scenario? Is there a risk of things burning out, or will the PC just fail to boot? This PSU is currently running in a system with an AM2 motherboard—I'm not even sure which CPU is in there, but with the 160GB HDD, it runs perfectly fine. (I'll check the specific CPU later and let you know)

Give it a shot; it won't cost you much to find out.🤣

It might. $117 😢 Honestly, I’d rather skip the experiment entirely if there’s even a slight chance of making a massive, stupid mistake.

My current PC setup is running on a pretty terrible power supply—some old MasterCase 450 that I can barely remember the specs of. It’s been acting up lately, shutting down randomly right in the middle of gaming sessions. On top of that, my graphics card is absolute garbage, so I'm planning on upgrading that very soon anyway.
I was browsing through a local shop today and saw this
Xilence 480 model priced at $133 what looks like a decent deal. What are your thoughts on this thing?
Since I'm currently rocking an HD 6450 with 1GB of DDR3—which is basically a paperweight by today's standards—I'm looking to swap it out. Do you think this power supply actually has enough juice to handle a new card and hold up over time?

The Corsair RM450? It's actually a pretty decent unit, so you're probably fine grabbing it.
I guess it could handle pretty much any new GPU you decide to throw in there.

Are these kinds of power supplies from brands like Linkworld or Delta Electronics actually any good?

If that thing actually puts out 600W, I’ll run a marathon through downtown Chicago. Seriously, if you think buying a cheap power supply just because it claims to have higher wattage is a smart move, you're dead wrong. It probably isn't even hitting 50% of its rated capacity. It’s better to save up a little more and grab THIS TOP-TIER POWER SUPPLY instead. I see it all the time—people will drop a fortune on a high-end GPU from $3.25 but then they try to penny-pinch on the power supply. Then, when the PSU inevitably fries, it takes the whole system down with it, and suddenly everyone is complaining about how the store sold them "defective" parts.

I’m with Junior on this one. Honestly, I feel like people on this forum love to tear into certain budget power supplies just because they carry a cheap price tag, rather than actually pointing out any real flaws in the hardware itself.

Budget power supplies like Delta Electronics, EVGA SuperNOVA, or maybe some FSP Group units can get the job done. But brands like Linkworld, Intel, Microsoft, Logitech, or Maze... those are basically just overpriced junk. 😛

I’m with you there—honestly, those power supplies seem meant for people running on integrated graphics who just aren't too worried about high-end performance.
