I was out in the countryside today snapping some shots of these old ruins, and I’ve been thinking that they’d look way more impactful in black and white. Does anyone know of a good website or maybe a specific program I could use to pull that off?

You can find that specific option within Photoshop. Additionally, there is a PDF available that covers this subject in much greater detail.

Just pull the photo up in Silicon Valley -> Image -> Convert to Grey and then save it.

So, okay. If I send someone a private message on Reddit, can I actually write it out ahead of time and then schedule when it actually sends? Like, maybe I draft it at 7:00 AM, but the person doesn't actually get it until 8:00 AM—and that scheduled time shows up as when they received it on their end.
Do you guys get what I'm saying?? Please, I need some help here. Is this like some kind of hacker trick where you just shift the timestamp around? It would be a huge lifesaver because I have stuff to do, and I just don't have the time to sit glued to my computer just so someone else gets my message at a specific time... Thanks!🙂

Nobody cares about your data. Nobody is staring at it, nobody is obsessing over it, and nobody is losing sleep over it. It's obvious you have no clue what the actual traffic stats look like on a site like Reddit. Relax—you aren't some high-profile target being hunted by the FBI. The moderation team has much bigger fish to fry (like, say, tracking down the people actually responsible for the nonsense posted here) than worrying about our data, most of which is fake anyway.

Everyone thinks they know everything about you. They think they know your shoe size, what breed of dog you own, which stylist you hit up for a haircut, what your ringtone sounds like, even how many minutes behind your wristwatch is running... It’s like they know it all. ☕

The truth is, they don't actually care, nor can they see much at all. Unless an admin gives them specific permission to look at your emails (which is how it works on the vBulletin boards I hang out on, though I'm not totally sure if it's the same for every platform), all they really see is whatever info you've manually typed into your profile and your dynamic IP address—you know, that number that shifts every time your router or modem reconnects to the internet.

Don't even pretend they care. I've never understood people who show up just to stir the pot on Reddit, then suddenly spiral into this panic about how vital they are to the mods. Like the moderators actually have nothing better to do than obsess over their data. It's ridiculous.

Or maybe they’re actually hunting Interpol, or perhaps it's someone like Bin Laden? ☕

Honestly, I don't get why mods and admins are even allowed to read private messages. If someone else can just go in and read them, why call them "private" in the first place?🤷. I'm not saying anyone is definitely going to abuse the info, but you never know what someone might do...

Let an old timer clear things up for you. A lifetime ago, I spent some time working on a vBulletin board, and I can tell you this with absolute certainty: moderators cannot see your private messages. Besides, they have way too much work dealing with our nonsense to even care.

I actually had a site owner come straight to my house once to walk me through the mechanics of moderating, uploading content to the server, and all that. He brought a stack of paperwork with him—he was strictly following US federal regulations—and explained that both he and I were essentially operating on the edge of legal liability. To my stunned expression, he told me plainly: as a mod, you’re responsible for every bit of crap anyone posts. Since he owns the place, his liability is even higher.

To put it simply, this is a massive Reddit community with a relatively small moderation team. They are tasked with reading every single post; they are legally accountable to everyone here regarding potential lawsuits or claims for defamation and libel—the kind of stuff those legal PDFs are always full of. They are responsible for keeping the site running smoothly, but they also have actual lives. For them, this is basically spending non-existent free time. When a moderator logs on and is met with a mountain of our arguments, half-truths, and baseless speculation—since we all think we're geniuses and act incredibly rude when we're wrong—they have to read, redirect, comment, and edit it all while trying to stay sane. Do you honestly believe moderators have the mental capacity to spy on us? We're just a bunch of anonymous users who cause them nothing but headaches.

Do you really think anyone cares about our private messages? Let's be honest, there's nothing intelligent in them, just pure filler. Those messages are visible only to you, the user. A moderator definitely can't see them, nor would they care to. Moderation involves much more important and serious tasks than digging through DMs, email addresses (which are usually just fake info anyway), or any other trivial data we provide.

People, wake up. We aren't interesting enough to target, and nobody is wasting their time looking at the junk we entered during registration. This paranoia on the board is getting out of hand.

I mean, most of this is coming from people who probably haven't even peeked at a forum's admin panel, let alone actually managed one. What kind of crazy person does that? If I actually wanted to spam, there are way easier ways to grab a million addresses than doing it here. You're reading through endless nonsense, dealing with PMs (there's always someone wanting something😠), checking to see if anyone is sharing illegal stuff because I definitely don't want to get reported for abuse and have my whole site shut down, plus there's always settings to tweak and maintenance to do (which we don't really do 😁 here). Then you've got those clever users looking for loopholes in the rules—honestly, there's more than enough to keep you busy...
The main thing is that people are totally freaking out, acting like the crew running the forum is just sitting around waiting to grab someone's email address or dynamic IP or whatever else. 🙄

They can definitely pull an IP address, which would pin down your computer's location, but I suspect getting access to that kind of data requires a court order or some other official authorization.

I remember being an Administrator for a failing vBulletin forum once after its license had run out. I’d set the whole thing up via File Transfer Protocol, but since the subscription was only good for a year, I didn't see much point in renewing it or investing in a full ownership license—there just wasn't enough traffic or active users to justify the cost. 🙈



I’ve spent quite a bit of time managing communities, having served as an Administrator for everything from vBulletin to phpBB and MyBB. I’m currently running things on phpBB, and I have to say, it’s a solid piece of software. In many ways, it feels remarkably similar to vBulletin—you get those familiar touches like the personal and admin notepads, the reputation system, and that ability to see exactly what a user is up to in their profile, whether they're starting a new thread or just browsing through a specific discussion.

Of course, I would never dream of misusing user data.
