So,
About a week ago, I stubbed my toe against the wall. Naturally, it swelled up immediately, and I spent about two days limping around...
It’s been a week now. The pain has subsided somewhat, but the swelling hasn't fully gone down. It just seems stuck. How long does it actually take for this to subside? And why has there been zero progress over the last four days? It's just the same every single day. Any suggestions on what to rub on it or what to do...

🙏🙏🙏

Hey everyone. I could use some advice on how to help my husband. Here’s the situation: he cut his big toe with a chainsaw. We went to the ER and they put in two stitches. Part of the nail is gone, and there are these little flaps of flesh exposed, which have since dried up. He’s had the stitches removed now, but pus is oozing from those spots. It looks like a new nail is growing in and pushing the scabs outward. Does anyone know the best way to clean this wound? How should I handle removing those scabs? Thanks for any help.

Try using some hydrogen peroxide; you can pick up a bottle at any CVS without a prescription.

Also, I think he really ought to head over to a primary care physician to get someone to actually look at it, especially if there's pus leaking out.

Thanks for the reply. I was just using the peroxide to get those bandages off since they got stuck to the wound. I'll try to see if I can clear away more of the scabs. It looks like the old nail is growing over the scab now. At least it's a good sign that his finger doesn't hurt.

My big toe is messed up and I can’t really bend it at the joint—it just feels tight, you know? It hurts, nothing crazy, but it’s definitely uncomfortable when I walk too much or try to flex it myself. Plus, it looks thicker than it used to be.

The injury happened back in December last year when I took a hard hit to my toe.
My doctor basically told me there isn't anything they can do about it.

Now I'm thinking about getting back into running, but I have no idea how that's going to affect the toe.
Has anyone dealt with this? Any advice?

What kind of injury was it? Like, a fracture?

I don't think it's actually a fracture. I had the scans done back in January, though I never bothered to go pick up the results.
It looks incredibly bruised to me, and it seems like that specific joint took the brunt of the impact—maybe it just got crushed under all that force.
I have no clue what the recovery process looks like for an injury like this, but from what I can tell, it isn't happening anytime soon.

Not sure how an ankle even heals after something like that, but from what I can tell, it’s definitely not happening fast.

Without seeing those scans, we're basically guessing. You should probably go pick up that report.

Hey everyone, I stubbed my thumb pretty bad and now the nail has turned blue and actually fell off... It’s halfway grown back now, but there’s just raw skin exposed, so it hurts whenever anything touches it. It even started bleeding a little... I have a job where I have to wear heavy boots all day, so I could really use some advice. Does anyone know of a good cream to help this heal? It’s getting pretty uncomfortable...

And look, there isn't some magic cream that’s gonna make his nail grow overnight... he’ll probably need another three weeks before it fully covers the raw part. In the meantime, you gotta protect it... maybe try some Bepanthen ointment, throw a little piece of gauze over it, and then slap on a Band-Aid Extreme (since that stuff won't just peel right off inside a boot) around his palac, just to keep it immobilized

Toe injury from soccer
I managed to injure my toe while playing soccer recently. It wasn't broken, just a bit swollen at first, but now I find that any significant impact to the toe joint forces me to take a break from the game for a while. I suspect the ligaments might be the underlying issue here. Without getting too deep into a medical debate—since this has become somewhat of a chronic nuisance—I imagine stepping away from the pitch for about six months might do the trick. That said, I was wondering if anyone here knows of, or could perhaps recommend, specific insoles for sneakers or some kind of protective padding for the toe bone to shield it from impact during matches.
Thanks
