What to expect during a urethroscopy?

I might have to head in for that exam soon, so I was wondering—do they usually give you some kind of anesthesia, or is it just done wide awake? What’s the actual experience like, and how long does it typically take?

I wasn't there myself, but I definitely need to make it out there eventually, so if you wouldn't mind giving us the lowdown on how everything went down... 👍

I get that stinging while I'm peeing, and sometimes even after I'm done... they keep finding bacteria in my swabs every once in a while, and occasionally in my semen too, so the diagnosis ended up being chronic prostatitis. It sounds like they just haven't isolated the actual cause for you yet, so they probably want to dig deeper to see what's going on inside, though I don't really get why they'd bother if you aren't dealing with obstructive issues, that constant urge to go without being able to, or a weak stream and all that... but hey, I'm no doctor, and honestly, I don't have a ton of faith in these specialists either! I've been dragging this thing along for five years because it seems like they haven't got a clue how to actually fix it 😁 I've downed enough antibiotics to sink a ship... things improve for a minute and then the whole mess just comes right back, so we're basically just spinning our wheels here... smile and bear it, I guess.😍

I’ve already cycled through a few different types of antibiotics for this, and by some coincidence, this is actually the third urologist I've seen. It isn't exactly unbearable, but I really don't have the energy to go dragging myself from one hospital clinic to another, so I end up waiting quite a while between appointments. Still, it's a constant, low-level irritation that just won't quit. Some days it's worse than others, I guess.
