Hey everyone...

I’ve got a major sleep issue. I just can't drift off. For example, I hit the sack at 11 PM, my alarm goes off at 9 AM, and I wake up—but I still feel like I could sleep for days. Then I'm dragging all through the day too. That's 10 hours of shut-eye, which should be more than enough for any normal person. If anyone knows what might be causing this, please hit me with some advice... I'm 19, by the way.😢

Thanks a lot...

Daily grind? Lifestyle choices? Addictions? ... you know the drill best yourself.

I just head to campus during the day. Never more than 8 hours, and even then, it’s just 4 hours of class with breaks in between. I don't think that's it... I don't smoke, don't drink, and I don't touch anything illegal.🙂

🤷🤷

Anemia?

When was the last time you actually checked your hemoglobin and iron levels?

First off, we have to rule out any physical triggers: neurological issues like narcolepsy, or internal medical problems such as vitamin deficiencies or heart conditions. You need to get a full blood panel, a comprehensive physical, an EEG... the works. Once you’ve cleared those possibilities, we’re left looking at psycho-emotional factors—things like depression or chronic fatigue syndrome. Or, honestly, it might turn out to be nothing at all. Just try to stay calm...

Try aiming for 5-7 hours instead of pushing for 9—honestly, it’s worked for me more times than I can count. I actually feel way better when I'm getting less sleep.

Even when I manage to get a solid twelve hours of sleep overnight, I still find myself craving at least another four hours during the day... so I just go ahead and take them! It’s this bizarre counterintuitive effect that seems to happen. Honestly, you might have better luck trying to cut back on the total sleep time and just forcing yourself to actually get up when the alarm goes off.🙂

Sometimes I’ll sleep for like 12 or 14 hours straight, and then I just feel totally groggy all day because I can't stay awake. I guess you should try to get up earlier and just force yourself to stay up, maybe that helps with the sleepiness. Though, honestly, it doesn't really work for me. I usually just end up sleeping through the entire day and night anyway.

I get those same headaches if I sleep too much, too. I guess if I hit the sack around midnight or maybe 1 AM and get up by 7, I'll be fine.

I guess that old saying still holds water—one hour before midnight is worth way more than two hours after.

I mean, who would actually fall for something like that anyway?....

I saw the title and honestly, it felt like it was written specifically for me 😂.
The thing is, I need about 10 hours of sleep 😱. But since I have a job and have to be up by 6 AM every single day, I can't exactly just head to bed at 8 PM 😂. If I get less than 8 hours, I'm basically a zombie—my blood pressure and blood sugar tank, and I’ve actually fainted before 😢.
Even when I manage to hit that 8-hour mark most of the week, I still feel completely drained and exhausted; once I finally get home, I'm absolutely useless. I don't know anyone my age (I'm 25) who needs this much sleep 😬. For me, it’s always been this way 🤷. My doctors say everything is fine—I even went in for a full physical last month
. I see some of you posting about struggling with sleeping too much—well, that's not my problem. On the weekends, I'll sleep for 12 hours straight and feel amazing. Happy, refreshed, the whole nine yards 😂.
So, yeah. That's the situation. I would be thrilled if I could somehow train my body to function on just 8 hours 🙂

Rebecca Scott You aren't alone. It sounds exactly like my best friend—she’s completely non-functional unless she gets at least 12 hours of sleep. So, you're definitely in good company.😍

I’m dealing with the same sleep struggle. I hit the sack around 11 PM or midnight, but my brain just refuses to shut off until 3 or 4 in the morning. 😲 Once I'm in bed, I don't scroll or watch TV; I just lie there obsessively trying to force myself to sleep. When I finally drift off, I can't seem to drag myself out of bed before noon. I tried resetting my internal clock by forcing myself up at 8 AM one morning—thinking if I was exhausted during the day, I'd crash easier that night—but it backfired completely. I felt like a zombie in the morning, then suddenly had a massive surge of energy in the afternoon and evening, almost like I'd slept for forty-eight hours straight. 😲 Does anyone have any actual advice for this? 😕
