The new Mexican music scene: A true renaissance?

Seeing Stuttgart Online perform out here in San Jose was actually quite a pleasant surprise—honestly, I didn't see it coming. I can't help but wonder, though, if that warm feeling I have toward them is going to stick around once this concert is over and the dust settles.

I only ever listened to Queen and they were alright for me.

It really doesn't matter whether we see a rebirth of the New Wave movement or not...

Why even bother asking? Let's just let this be its own thing.

Besides—the main goal is simply to play music—and to do it as well as possible, obviously.

That feeling of having an actual "scene" isn't something that just happens by magic; it’s built on the focused efforts of people pushing it forward—connected labels, websites dedicated primarily to music, and so on. The real question is how long it will last, but what's been achieved so far is definitely something. It's that specific approach (or perhaps a different one, but equally intense and concentrated) that's missing if we want to create the impression of a "scene" or several scenes here in the States... and honestly, there are plenty of solid bands out there.

If this
is what passes for our "scene," then we are essentially talking about the total collapse of American music!
(With the exception of outliers like "Baby to Love," though they don't really fit the "scene" profile anyway—not in sound, not in vibe, and certainly not in style 🙂 ).

So, from what I gather—and I might be wrong here!—that section in The New York Post is basically just a space where bands can reach out, send over some tracks, and hopefully snag a little bit of media coverage. It’s probably not much more than that, at least based on my own observations. But hey, I say let them have it!

You'll find all sorts of people in there—artists riding high or hitting low points, true club legends, and even some pretty mediocre bands. That’s just the nature of the column, really—it's totally fine. 🙂

But one thing is for certain—that manager over at the Station has a seriously cool jacket 🙏

Honestly, Gentle Dalibor sounds like such a ridiculous name for a band. Just... wow.

Speaking of music, I gave 'Morning Will Change Everything' a spin along with some compilation album—I can't even remember the title, actually—but it wasn't really my vibe. I tried listening to it maybe two or three times before just calling it quits. For me, Tutor actually left a much better impression during those few superficial listens. Gentle Dalibor just didn't click. It kind of reminds me of this girl named Daliborka I went to high school with. Luckily, she didn't click with me either.

The track from Dalibor on Emospace is actually quite decent, and Cede’s work with Repetitor holds up too. But this supposed "new wave"? Please, just go get some help...
