So, here’s what happened:

I ended up taking a nap 😒 in the kitchen area right by the gas stoveβ€”and long story short, a pot of water boiled over around 4 AM and just kept going until there was nothing left but a glowing hot pot sitting on the burner. My girlfriend rushed in, killed the flame and the gas, but man, that smell had already drifted into the next room. I woke up feeling totally fine, but honestly, I was pretty spooked about what might have happened, so I headed down to the ER just to be safe. They ran some blood work to check for gas exposure and everything came back perfectly normal. One of the staff members mentioned that the smell wasn't actually gas, but more like the scent of overheated metal and the mineral buildup from the boiling water. The doctor told me to keep an eye out for dizziness, nausea, or trouble breathing and come back if anything pops up. Do you guys think I have any reason to worry, or am I officially in the clear? I've read online that some people don't show symptoms for a day or two, so I'm a little on edge.

Thanks for any insight!

Look, if you start feeling those symptoms, just head straight to the ER... honestly. But hey, if they already ran some blood gas tests on you, you’re probably in the clear. Just be more careful next time...πŸ™„

Hold up, you didn't actually inhale any gas, it just caught fire... that stench was definitely just a burnt pot or something. You're fine, especially if they ran blood tests at the ER and everything came back clean...
I'm no toxicologist, but sounds like you'll live.

Thanks, everyone... everything turned out fine... I guess I just spooked myself a little bit! :S

I have a question... is it actually possible to experience gas poisoning symptoms over an extended period? My cousin spent three months living in an apartment where it was eventually discovered that the gas lines were leaking in two separate spots. Nobody knows exactly how long this had been happening or the specific volume of the leak, but once the local utility company conducted their routine inspection, things went into a complete tailspin. During those three months, she was dealing with constant nausea and debilitating migraines, and she felt perpetually exhausted and lethargic. I’m wondering if this could be considered a "sub-acute" phase of gas exposure. Should we be taking her to a doctor since she was directly exposed? The leaking pipe was located in the hallway right outside her bedroom, and she always sleeps with her door open. Or is it possible we're just overreacting? Everything is fine nowβ€”the issue has been repaired and she isn't being exposed anymoreβ€”but I'm still concerned. Who would be the best professional to consult about this?
