Strabismus surgery: Looking for advice/experiences... help!

So, I’m 14 and heading into high school next year. I wear glasses, and while my vision has actually improved, I still deal with some eye misalignment issues. It looks like I'll need the surgery mentioned in the title, so I was hoping to hear about your experiences with this kind of procedure...
1. Is there a chance things could go sideways?
2. What's the recovery like? I'm thinking about doing it over the summer, so I'm curious if being out in the sun is okay and stuff like that.
3. How were your results?
4. Where did you guys go to get it done?

Look, don't sweat it too much. That was, what, over a decade ago? Honestly, by now they’ll just breeze through it like it's nothing.

First, they run some tests at the hospital since you're going under general anesthesia. They knock you out, then they tighten up the eye muscles... I guess it feels a bit weird when you wake up, kind of like there's a heavy weight pressing against your eye, but it isn't exactly excruciating pain. You'll probably stay at the hospital for a few days—maybe a week tops—just so they can monitor you and keep you on some eye drops and stuff.

I had that surgery back when I was just a kid, easily over twenty years ago now. I can't really recall much beyond having to wear a patch over my eyes for a while afterward, and then dealing with some bandages or glasses once I finally got discharged from the hospital. It wasn't actually that big of a deal, though—even at such a young age, I didn't walk away with any lasting trauma from the whole ordeal. Everything turned out great, and I'm doing just fine today.

I’ve gone under the knife three times for strabismus. Twice when I was just a kid—around 6 and 8 years old—and then again at 18. For this most recent one, they told me I wouldn't feel a thing in the eye itself. Honestly? Just some slight tightness whenever I tried looking out of the corner of my eye. Nothing major. If you want to know what actually sucked, it was the Apaurin injection in my hip right before the surgery. 🙂

They actually offered me this surgery when I was little, but back then it wasn't nearly as routine as it is now, so everyone was super nervous... we were all worried my eye wouldn't stay straight. My mom ended up deciding it was better to just skip it. Luckily, everything cleared up for me just by doing some eye exercises at the clinic!

But my cousin did go through with it, and while it helped her out a lot, she was still so young when she had it that it didn't fully fix everything. I guess she might have better luck if she goes back for it once she's older...
