A single white hair?

I woke up this morning and noticed one of my eyelashes has gone completely white overnight. It’s pretty surreal... I'm wondering how something like that can happen so fast. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

I honestly couldn't believe it when my aunt told me her hair had turned completely white overnight following the day her mother passed away...
She woke up one morning with a shock of white roots, which was wild because she’s always had hair as dark as a midnight sky...
It just goes to show that anything is possible these days.

My lashes look almost white to me. Like, completely white. Honestly, I don't even care—I've got mascara anyway.🙄

I actually heard this story about a guy who had a bullet fly under his pillow while he was sleeping, and he went totally gray in a split second... And it really happened, so I mean, anything is possible, I guess.

Maybe it wasn't exactly common sense, but when you're dealing with massive, life-altering shocks, people tend to lose their grip on reality and start obsessing over things for days on end...

It’s actually possible.
A massive shock, intense stress, or extreme nerves can trigger hair loss—whether it's your whole head or just a single patch—or even cause other weird reactions.

My boyfriend went through a really rough patch last year, and he ended up with a white streak that appeared almost overnight.🤷

Seriously though, how is it even possible for hair that’s already several inches long to turn white overnight??? What kind of biological mechanism could possibly strip the dark pigment out of the ends of a hair shaft that's centimeters away from the root?

I’ve never heard of anything like that happening in the human body.

Look, I get that stress can cause new gray hairs to start sprouting up without pigment, but the idea that someone's entire existing hair—already grown out for inches—just turns white all at once because they had a bad day? That’s just fairy tales for kids.

Unless, of course, someone went overboard with some peroxide or some other heavy-duty bleaching agent.

Once a hair has already sprouted, there's no way it’s going to turn white just because you're stressed out or scared.

There is a chance that any new hair growing after the fact might come in without pigment, but that only applies to the specific strands growing after the incident happens.

Anything that's already grown is staying its original color, even if the shock was intense enough to nearly take someone out. Everything else is just pure fiction.
