So, I’m curious to hear about your own experiences with vision issues and trying to fix them.
I have a pretty high prescription—around -7—and I've been wearing soft contact lenses for about 12 years now (soft ones before that). For almost that entire time, my vision has just kept getting worse. It feels like the progression has slowed down lately, now that I'm in my early 30s, but it hasn't stopped... It’s strange, though. My nearsightedness didn't even show up until I was 15 or 16. Before that, everything was fine. And none of my family members are nearsighted either.
My eye doctor mentioned that people used to think your prescription would stabilize once you finished college—specifically with myopia—after those intense years of studying. But apparently, they're seeing now that it can keep climbing well after that. They often link this worsening vision to constant near-work, like being stuck indoors staring at computer screens all day. Interestingly, my vision actually improved just once, during a year when I spent an unusual amount of time outdoors. It’s a bit depressing, honestly, because according to every reliable source out there, there isn't really a "cure." Sure, there are invasive options like surgery, but that's a whole different conversation... I’ve tried the Bateson methods and various eye muscle exercises, but nothing really yielded any significant results (though I have to admit, I wasn't exactly consistent).

From what I’ve gathered, the best way to manage myopia seems to be giving the eyes a break by looking into the distance, spending time in nature, and just being outside. Sunlight seems to help, too. But how do you actually balance being outdoors with the reality of modern life? We need monitors for work and books to study, right? We have to make a living somehow.
What has your experience been like?

Digging up this old thread... hope you're still hanging in there! 😁
Thanks so much for the tips on spending more time outdoors. My vision hasn't actually improved yet—I'm sitting at -5.00 in both eyes and I've been rocking glasses since I was four years old. Yeah, my prescription used to jump around quite a bit during school—sometimes a huge leap, sometimes just a nudge—but it finally leveled off somewhere in my late twenties... I even tried those black glasses with the little holes for eye strain... but honestly, what I'm noticing is exactly what you mentioned. My vision stopped getting worse once I started really focusing on everything around me—even when I'm not out in the woods, I try to look "wide" and practice shifting my focus constantly!

Thanks for posting... looks like there are still a few of us left 😉

There’s no reason to dig up ancient threads, especially if the goal is to debate things that violate our Health sub forum guidelines (like pinhole glasses, for instance).

We have plenty of active ophthalmology discussions—think Daily Diopter Updates, Vision and Eye Health Issues and so on—where you can share experiences. Just leave the pinhole glasses, "vision correction exercises," and other pseudo-scientific nonsense at the door; those posts will be deleted immediately.

Thanks for understanding.
