Hey everyone,
My GGT levels have been sitting high—somewhere between 100 and 200—for years now. Because of that, my doctors are pushing for a liver biopsy since it’s basically the only way to actually figure out what's going on under the hood.

Is it even possible for weekend drinking and the occasional joint to keep those numbers elevated for this long?

Honestly, I'm pretty freaking nervous about the biopsy itself. Has anyone here actually gone through it? I'd love to hear your stories... like, does it actually hurt? How long does it take to bounce back afterward?

thanks 🙂

...I haven't personally done one, but I work in a clinic where we perform them on patients almost every single day... A biopsy isn't actually that painful, usually because you get some local anesthetic first... If you were out drinking heavily over the weekend right before getting blood work done, that could definitely skew the results, but seeing levels that high every single time shouldn't just be from the occasional party or smoking a little weed... There isn't really a "recovery period" since it's an outpatient procedure, but it would be smart to redo all your tests first and definitely check your vitals to make sure there isn't a risk of bleeding... Most liver diseases are tied to blood clotting issues, so that’s one of the real dangers... You're definitely supposed to rest for 24 hours after the biopsy—meaning no eating and staying on your back for at least 4 hours right after, then avoiding any heavy activity until the next day... If you've already done all the other tests like ultrasounds, X-rays, and blood panels, and your doctor still can't figure out why your GGT levels are spiked, then a biopsy is really the only way left to find out what's actually going on...

...the weekends and the weed...yeah, they definitely can..and honestly, they can do permanent damage too....look...God above...made sure you have...2 eyes...2 ears...2 kidneys...2 arms...2 legs....but some things didn't come in pairs...and those things are...your liver...your heart...your brain....so everything you only have ONE of—protect it like a stash at customs...you know what I mean....take care of your liver....it regenerates pretty fast if there's actually something left to regenerate...but if it's gone...then we're screwed....
A buddy of mine was in the exact same boat....then he went 3 months without alcohol...soda...weed...stuff like that...got his bloodwork done again...everything looked fine and those liver enzymes or whatever were almost back to normal...not quite, but close...meaning they dropped significantly.
...just use your head.

...LISTEN UP...I'm a new member here, and even though I'm young, I feel like I've seen a lot already...My grandfather is currently facing a situation just like this...He’s a survivor of bladder cancer
and stomach cancer too...He’s been through the ringer with chemotherapy and has had to deal with a strictly soft food diet (which he's still struggling with today)...Mentally, from what I can see, he's holding up incredibly well...However, during his most recent checkup
an ultrasound revealed some fluid buildup around his liver...

Does anyone here have experience dealing with a case like this? What actually happened...and...how is that person doing now? Please, I really need some insight...thanks😉

By the way...is that when they perform a biopsy or a puncture procedure????

A friend of mine gets hammered every single weekend—and now she’s on heart meds, dealing with nasty liver issues, asthma, you name it. Basically, the more she drinks and smokes (a pack a day, easy), the worse everything gets. Not even gonna mention how rough she looks lately—just totally worn out and gaunt. Look, go wild while you're young, I get it—but you’ve gotta know when to draw the line, because your body isn't going to put up with that forever.
